I’ve wanted to get the girls side by side since… well, since they’ve been separated! At first it wasn’t feasible, of course because of the machines and IV’s that were involved, but for the last week I’ve wished I could just put them together.
Finally today I got the nerve to ask the nurse if I could. See… I don’t like not feeling like the parent. Maybe I should be more assertive in the hospital, but I feel like I have to ask for permission for everything I do with my babies. That’s no fun! I’m the mommy!
Anyway, we’ve had a sweet nurse for the last 4 days and I like her a lot! She’s off for the next 3 and I don’t know if we’ll have her when she gets back or not, but regardless she’s been great! She was excited about the idea of putting them together, so we did! Even wrapping them up in the same little blanket! She said that they used to co-bed twins but that now they weren’t allowed to. I understand the whole SIDS risk thing and while I’m sure there’s validity to it, I still think that twins should be together as much as possible. So I’m going to put them together when I’m there from now on!
The nurse said that she thinks they missed each other! She said that she’d noticed for the last couple of days that Gabby’s heart rate was consistently higher than Claire’s. But when we put them together, almost right away their heart rates were nearly the same!! Twins have some special stuff going on! I believe it!! This afternoon when I went back I picked up Gabby for her snuggle time, and as soon as I got settled, Claire started to fuss. So I set Gabby in her bed and picked up Claire and, wouldn’t you know it, Gabby started to fuss! It was the witching hour after all! 😉 So I put them together again, and as soon as Claire was settled in by Gabby, Gabby konked right out, sound asleep! Funny funny gals!
They just belong together. They do!
