This and Thus

Have you noticed my new blog look? Ha ha! It’s not done. I have to figure out how to change a few things, but it’s functional anyway. The reason for the change is that somehow my blog got hacked. Some rude person introduced some code somewhere that injected ugly stuff whenever I tried to post links to my blog posts. Some one obviously has too much time on their hands. So my hunky hubby came to my rescue and actually managed to isolate the problem and get rid of it. But I needed to change blog themes just to make sure it was good and gone. Hence the new look. 😉 So I’ve had a pounding headache for the last 2 days. Ugh!! I think that it’s finally leaving though, but I won’t hold my breath just yet. These things have a way of becoming semi-cronic! It’s like the leave again come again migraine! Stuart brought me a coke yesterday afternoon on his prep hour (what a guy) because sometimes a little extra caffeine helps ease things. Stu and I finally made it to IKEA last weekend! I’ve been dying to take him since I went in early November. On that trip I got a couple of Expedit shelving units that we’ve been using as benches. I haven’t finished the actual cushion top to them, but the idea is there. Anyway, so this time around we found some fabric bins that exactly fit in those cubbies, so now we have a LOT of storage for the kid’s junk and probably other junk as well if I can think through it a bit. Of course organizing is Stuart’s forte so maybe I’ll just let him do it. 😉 We also found a bed for our Ella. She’s still been sleeping in her crib, but she has been able to climb out for awhile now. I may have mentioned before that I attempted to convert it to a toddler bed, but was missing some hardware and know how apparently. So anyway, she’s been in the market for a “big girl” bed and I really wanted to skip to a twin instead of a transitionary toddler. The bed I had seen before was a twin with storage drawers underneath. Storage is a premium in her room because it is teeny-tiny. Well, Stu found a similar bed with the drawers that also has the bonus feature of pulling out as a trundle!! So... read more

While I was doing dishes this morning there was a moment, where each child was contentedly, though not necessarily quietly occupied on their own. Qade was busily doing school, Myles was driving his pick-up truck around in circles in the house and Ella was coloring a masterpiece on a Pooh coloring book page. When I noticed that this was happening, the feeling of relief was so intense that it reminded me just how much energy it takes on a constant basis to keep things going normally. Here I was able to get through an entire task (filling the dishwasher and cleaning countertops) without a screaming interruption. I’m sure that this happens more often than I give it credit for, but it struck me today because I was recently thinking that it’s been such a challenge to get the littles to a point where they can play independently, or even together, for any length of time without a crisis. I realize that comes with the toddler/preschooler territory, but today even though it was short lived, I realized there will come a time when I don’t have to be orchestrating each and every activity in their day, and they won’t constantly be climbing on me for more and more and more ideas. While in some ways I know that will be a relief (mom’s are people too!) I also know I will miss their clamoring for attention as well. So I’ll enjoy the moments of reprieve when they come, but I’m happy to help them find ways of using their boundless supply of energy right now as well. 🙂 It’s stormy today. Though it can’t decide if it wants to be snowing or raining. At one point it was snow, and Myles happened to spy it out the window and came running to me excitement etched in every bit of his being as he said, “Mom! I saw snow coming down from the sky!!” This boy has been waiting for “snow time” as he calls it, since summer I’m pretty sure. 😉 It’s a little funny though because he is usually the first one to come inside if he starts to get cold outside. We have found baby Jesus! Sometimes. Ella has claimed that particular piece from the nativity as her own special property. No surprise there with her obsession about babies! So she carries it around the house with her. I’ve found it in various locations like the bottom of... read more

Stu and I got to go to dinner last night without kids! It’s been awhile. We enjoyed it! I’m contemplating doing “balsamic chicken” for dinner tonight. Not sure if I really want to yet or not. I need to decide soon though because it’s a crock-pot meal. 😉 I’ve been sifting through the meat in the freezer and realized that we really need to eat it. So I’m making a pact with myself not to buy any more meat till we’ve been through the stuff that is not in vacuumed freezer bags. It’ll take a while, so I actually might break my pact if I find a really good deal on something, but I will vacuum seal it because it just works so much better that way. I have yet to use my kitchenaid mixer. I think I’m intimidated by it like I was my bread maker and sewing machine. Silly, I know! If you have any recipes that are fantastic to use in a stand mixer like that, shoot them my way! I actually may be using it in the next day or two because my supplies came in for some of the natural body products that I want to try, and I know at least one of those uses the whisk attachment on the mixer to whip up the stuff. 🙂 Kind of funny that the first time I use it will be on a non-food item. 😉 I’m making yogurt today. Going to be making some bread too. Plus I’m crocheting a hat for my next newborn session. Little miss domestic today. 😉 Ella continues to wake me up each night, multiple times even, begging for juice in her cup because she doesn’t like water. 🙁 I refuse to give her juice and sometime I hope that it’ll sink in. I’ve even been contemplating just not giving her juice at all for a few days to get her used to the idea that she can drink water and be fine. Last night Stu got up with her and worked through her issues. Now that her bed is no longer a prison, she feels free to get up turn on her lights and make herself comfy in the rocker with her books and baby. Ha! Silly girl! I’m on the lookout for a good craigslist deal on a twin sized bed for her. I’m thinking we’ll just skip the whole toddler bed stage. Her crib converts, but... read more

I do believe that I’m succumbing to the cold that my germ laden children have brought into our house. My throat is on fire!! Probably my defenses against it were depleted by the 3-4 rather interrupted nights of sleep I got this week. Thanks, De Bella! 😉 Oh well, sipping on cold cold sweet tea right now and it feels wonderful! I’m making a HUGE pot of chili for dinner tonight and for several lunches this week! I’m watching carbs again, and it seems to be helping. Down 3 lbs this week!!! I’d use 5 exclamation points, but it’s old territory that I had already lost before so it kinda doesn’t count… or does it? Anyway, I’m motivated right now. Not so much in the exercise department as the eating better food department, so we’ll go with that. I ordered a couple ‘natural’ ingredients today to use in my naturalizing process. I should be able to make some “non petroleum jelly” with it and some fantastic looking body moisturizer/scrub. Wow! Can’t wait to give it a whirl!! Since the kids have had coughs I’ve been running their humidifiers with eucalyptus water in it and using the chest rub stuff too. It does seem to help, and has got to be better than vicks! I’m afraid I might be turning into one of “those” moms cause this week I found a recipe on pinterest for natural homemade fruit snacks and I can’t wait to try it! I’m becoming more and more adverse to chemicals and preservatives and junk that our bodies just don’t need. Yeah… hopefully my sense of humor will prevent my pendulum from swinging TOO far, but still I never would have imagined that I’d be making my own yogurt, laundry detergent, shampoo and soon deodorant and moisturizers. 😉 Ha ha ha! Oh well… I did make some laundry detergent this week. I used Sal-suds instead of the peppermint this time, and I kinda miss the minty smell. Guess it really doesn’t matter since they come out of the dryer smelling like lavender thanks to my dryer ball. 🙂 Yesterday for “skills development” with Qade he was allowed to draw a picture of whatever he wanted. When I looked at it later, I noticed a nicely designed house with several green faces inside and they were all frowning. This concerned me slightly because I know that there’s a lot of psychology behind kid’s drawings, though I don’t buy... read more

The hummers have gone for good! Good luck, lil Hummers! I hope you have a nice winter in South America!! Kinda wish I could join them. My toes and nose are already not to thrilled with the cooler weather. Oh well. The Juncos have returned, so the Autumn bird swap has taken place. One of our trees is nearly bare, and but the cottonwoods have just started thinking about changing their green for gold. The boys keep asking me if it’s winter yet. I think they are eagerly anticipating Christmas already. Qade has even asked about if he has to do school at Christmas. Ha ha! Guess he’s counting down to vacation too! Although this week was Stuart’s “Fall Break” which meant that he got Thurs and Friday off, so Qade did as well. It’s nice to take a break now and then! Ella wore panties for the first time the other day. 🙂 She received a couple packs for her birthday, and was she ever excited about wearing them!! Ha ha! You’d have thought she’d discovered something phenomenal the way she was prancing around the house in them! She kept pulling at the waistband on her pants and would tell me “Pee-mee’s.” Yes, sweetie, you are wearing panties. 😉 She managed to go through 2 pairs that day. Since I was simply indulging her and in no way ready to start the training process, I wasn’t too concerned about it. Still, I should probably get that thing going pretty soon. Right up there with starting preschool with Myles. 😉 I’m such a procrastinator. I have had a couple really great experiences with business clients recently. It has given me new energy for the whole photography biz thing. 🙂 I was starting to get a bit discouraged with the lack of results from my marketing endeavors, but the past few weeks has helped to change that. Here’s hoping the trend continues!! 🙂 We’ve been drinking Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Spice coffee lately. It’s certainly the taste of Fall! I tried to drink it once when it was still warm out, and it was gross. 😉 Certain flavors belong to certain seasons, there’s just nothin’ you can do about it. Right now Ella is admiring her reflection in the darkened screen of my desk top, ha ha! She sat there for a moment playing with her hair, and then turned to me and said, “hair?” So I got a little pony... read more
