Lime green without the lime

2010
03.11

I don’t have any “wintery” limey-shirts. Guess the little gnomes who make the clothes don’t think it’s a winter color. So alak, I’m just celebrating in spirit today. I’ve had a hard time in the past finding a good limey maternity shirt as well… something WILL have to be done about that, because I simply cannot be at summer camp and not able to participate in Lime-Green Thursday! ;-)

Forget what I said about Myles having the RSV vaccine. I got it confused with something else. However, the doc doesn’t think it’s RSV. We did finally make it through the cold and snow yesterday to the doctor’s office. Strangely enough the doc who saw Myles noticed his Dad’s name on the chart and said, “I think your dad was one of my first patience way back when I first came here!” Wow! good memory, Doc! Poor little boy does not like going to doctors even when he isn’t going to get shots… guess he doesn’t know that. Though I can’t blame him, I don’t like strangers poking around on me either! He weighed in at 23lbs 4 oz. Had to have his oxygen levels checked and was NOT thrilled with the little thing on his big toe! Ha! :-) They listened to his lungs and said they sound good. Doc said he sounded “croupy” and prescribed a one dose steroid something, and also a 5 day course of anti-biotics because one of his ears looked suspicious. The nurse came in after to give him his one dose, and Myles immediately clamped his lips shut like a vice. Uh-uh, nothing doing. So I politely asked the nurse if I could give it to him and, surprisingly, she said sure. Sure enough as soon as the syringe was in my hand he opened right up. I gave it too him in halves so he wouldn’t spit it out, but after the first part he thought it tasted pretty nasty and wasn’t as willing the second time around. Mom’s are good at it though. :-) Down it went! Whew, and we were out-a there! I don’t care for doctor’s offices much more than the lads to be honest.

Anyway, after all of that it was off to the pharmacy and a 20 min wait for the prescription. Fortunately for US one of the pharmacists came out the side door while we were sitting there waiting and Myles gave her one of his most charming grins. She laughed out loud and said, “hello, grandson!!” Then she asked what we were waiting for and went back and zipped it right through! Awwww, so sweet! Helped restore my opinion of mankind after trying to navigate their awful parking lot!! ;-)

So once we were all packed up and ready to finally turn our nose toward home, I made a slight detour to treat myself to some fried zucchini from Carl’s Jr. After all, if I could survive Wal-Mart (including standing in the “Customer Service” line for a return) AND the doctor’s office, AND the Pharmacy with a sick kido in tow, I felt I deserved it. ;-) And it was delish too! Someday I’m going to learn to make it myself!

Well, so we’re back at home, and all is well. Unfortunately due to the stressful effects of a long day yesterday including all of the above mentioned, I ended up with yet another migraine. I thought it was pretty well under control till all of a sudden it packed a wallop! So I took myself off to bed early and struggled to sleep for a LONG time. I got up this morning feeling somewhat better, though I can tell it’s still “lurking” in the shadows, so I’m guzzling water and trying my best to take it as easy as possible.

Myles is coughing MORE today, but I think it’s actually a good thing. I just hate to hear him cough, and it really wears him out, hence the morning nap he is taking, but it seems to be more productive now. Before it all seemed so congested and tight when he’d cough. It was painful to listen to. Just pray for my littlest lad to get well. Seems he’s had more than his fair share of colds and illness this winter season.

Hope y’all are having a swell day, and if YOU own any wintery limey themed clothes, or if your lucky enough to NOT have snow on the ground again, and can wear your springy limey stuff, then do so for me, okay? ;-)

It’s only Tuesday??

For real? This week has already seemed incredibly long!! Must be because I went to bed with a migraine last night. :-( Boo-hoo! Pregnancy certainly makes headaches more frequent for me. Harder to deal with too because I can’t take the “normal” stuff for it. *sigh* Oh well, I woke up without the nasty uncomfy headache this morning so that’s good!!

My poor lil Myles isn’t feeling tip-top today. He came home from our weekend away with this “seal-like” barking cough. :-( Poor lad! His little voice is horse and he’s congested. He doesn’t seem to mind too much, but the cough just sounds awful! I called his doc’s office this morning, but they were totally booked, of course. The nurse was nice enough to tell me that there have been some upper respiratory viruses, and RSV going around. Oh, well that’s encouraging to a mom who can’t bring her baby in! Good grief! Myles did have the RSV vaccine so I’m not really worried, but if he’s not doing better tomorrow I’ll call again to see if I can bring him in. Just in case. :-)

I snapped a shot of some really great stuff the other day when we were heading to Stu’s parents. :-) Starbucks is our “treat” when we’re on the road. I thought you NEEDED to see this picture, and don’t worry, if it makes you drool and you simply have to rush out of your house to the nearest S’bucks, they aren’t paying me for advertising. :-D

Hit the spot!

Well, I was a little at a loss for dinner ideas, but one just struck me! Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup!!! The wind has picked up and is blowing in very gray, gloomy clouds, so I think it’ll just do the trick! Hope you all are having a faster week than me. Toodles!

Those are my new backdrop colors! They came in today from Amazon, our favorite shopping place, and I’ve been having a blast setting it up and of course taking photos! I almost feel sorry for my lads as they are bound to be my subject matter in many photos! Here’s just one of the shots I took today…. oh well, maybe I’ll give you more than one. This lens is fantastic! I’m loving it!!

Portrait

As you can see from the bed-hair this photo shoot was just after nap time. :-) And yes, I did bribe them with fruit snacks too. Ha ha!! Oh and Myles found a water bottle left by his Grandpa, and refused to put it down for anything! Still, I think they’re cutie-patuties!

Brothers

These were just too sweet with both the lads. It’s amazing how relaxed and ready they were to have fun while we where doing this as opposed to Sears portraits. I’m thinking hasta la vista FOREVER to Sears and JC Penny and ESPECIALLY Wal-Mart portrait studios. ;-)

Best buds!

So that was my fun for today. That and rearranging furniture. ;-) My mom scolded me, but sometimes ya just have to do it! I was ready for a change.

The sun was out this afternoon and it was warm enough that I didn’t need a jacket! The lads got thoroughly dirty climbing up and ROLLING down the little hill. But it looked like such fun! I had to intervene in the fun though once they decided to start eating dirt clods. Gross!!! They got plopped promptly in the tub when we came inside before dinner before play and all of that. I didn’t vacuum the floor for nothing today! ;-)

Well, in a rather random way that’s what’s been going on ’round here. We’re having fun, and still looking forward to more stable warmer weather. Toodles!

Just figured…

I was chatting w/ my mom on Facebook because we don’t like talk on the phone every day anyway. :-) She asked me if I was going to write a blog post tonight so I figured, why not!

So what we did today. For my part I was as LAZY as I could possibly be with 2 little lads in the same house! Last night we had company for dinner, and that was fun, but it was still a lot of work for me. I made Lasagna and it was delish, but that took up part of my morning, then in the afternoon I made homemade dinner rolls which were also exquisite, and a Hershey pie, yum!!! So I was pretty tired today as the “aftermath” hit. Hence my excuse for being lazy… though I don’t know if there is ANY excuse for me having a basket full of clean laundry waiting to be folded for 3 days till today my lovely son #1 decided to climb on the clean clothes with his MUDDY shoes on. *sigh*

But I’m getting ahead of myself. The sun was shining, it was a perfect day to play, we could not sit in the house on this beautiful sunshiny day! So we got bundled up, not too much, but enough cause it’s still cool, and played outside before lunch. My lads behave, mind, and play together so much better when they are in the great out-of-doors. I myself enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air as well. Though I didn’t participate in the “game” of “house” that was played in the dog house. Blah! I was thinking to myself that I used to play around in nasty dirty places like that as a kid all the time. In fact I’d probably be the first one to dive into the dog house and then convince everyone else (because I was a very persuasive child) that they too should join me. :-D Yep, I would. But not now… now I cringed to see Qade ever-so-comfy in the dog house call happily out “My house!” Ha ha! I may cringe on the inside now, but I’m not going to interfere. Nothing in there won’t wash off, and it’s fueling his active imagination AND burning energy! Woo-hooo!

After all that playing the boys had a Spaghetti-O’s with meatballs lunch, which they wolfed down like starving savages. Then came a lovely 2 and 1/2 hr nap which I didn’t participate in, but enjoyed to the fullest with my own little lunch of Italian Wedding Soup, and a great Austen book!

Once nap was over for real and the boys had demolished their snacks of apple wedges we once again went out to enjoy the afternoon sun. Stu’s grandparents came up to get water and told me about a brand new baby calf down at the end of our drive way. So I went to see it. Sure enough. It was BRAND new and so tiny and cute that I immediately wanted it for a pet. But then I looked around at all the big ugly cows standing round it and changed my mind. While I was watching the wee one learn to walk I noticed 2 coyotes eyeing it rather greedily too. These coyotes have been hanging around here for awhile and I dislike them a lot! They are pretty bold and aggressive and don’t seem as “yellow” as other coyotes I’ve seen. They don’t run away when I come out and yell at them, they just kind of saunter off. So I was nervous for the little cow, but our dog Cisco became the hero of the day, surprisingly. He chased off the coyotes! Usually he’ll just bark at them with his tail between his legs, but he had some guts today. I told Stuart the story when he came home and he went out looking for the rascals. I think they will have to be permanently dealt with since they don’t seem to fear us or the dog. They’re a hazard to the new calves not to mention I’m nervous about the lads being outside with them around too. Stu couldn’t find them today, but I’m quite sure they’ll be back.

Anyway, so we enjoyed a lot of outside play time today. We had leftovers for dinner, and sourgum molasses on our rolls. YUM! Just like being at Lamberts! :-) Hope you all have had a brilliant week, and will have a great weekend! Toodles!

Prego Musings

I haven’t really been in the mood to blog recently. I feel lousy in the evenings and that is when I mostly am online. BUT that’s no excuse. :-) I will lose my precious few readers if I don’t do my duty by them. Ha ha ha!! Yes, I have evening sickness. It’s not SO bad, but I do feel icky for the better part of the afternoon worsening into evening when I finally take myself off to bed to sleep it off. :-) I can’t complain because I know so many people who have had it WAY worse, and that’s got to be hard. Still I will enjoy it once the second trimester kicks in and I can feel energetic enough to keep up with my lads.

Some interesting things I’ve been thinking of concerning pregnancy lately.

Black licorice doesn’t necessarily make morning sickness better for me, but the lads like it. Only problem is that it becomes quite a mess with Myles. Ick!! He ends up looking like a very bad tobacco chewer, and his shirt and anything else near him is completely slimed.

The ONLY time I ever “feel” like sleeping on my tummy is when I’m pregnant. How ironic!

I have the WEIRDEST dreams when I’m pregnant…. don’t even ask about Big Bird!

My super-duper sense of smell does not do well for my queasies. EVERYTHING stinks!! I’ve Fabreezed the house, and tried to get rid of anything “smelly” but I do live with 3 guys… guess I’ll keep them around anyway! :-)

I gained 5 pounds, but then lost one, yay!! :-) I was way too flabby to begin with starting out, drat being so lazy last Fall, so I’m looking forward to the second trimester and warmer weather to get in my habit of walking again.

Well, I think that’s all for now. I’m thinking of a nice warm bed and fluffy pillows, and not many mid-night potty breaks. :-) Here’s hoping! Good night!

Myles had some important news to share. He has heard (I’m sure) that a picture is worth a thousand words and that’s good because he doesn’t have a very extensive vocabulary yet. :-)

Big News

Despicable

02.15

I’ve been dealing with disgusting things all day. Blah! One of those days where you know, if it were possible, you’d hire out certain parts of mommying! Fortunately, I did in a way. Cause actually it all started YESTERDAY.
We spent the weekend at my inlaw’s home and had a great time. Stu and I were able to have a Valentine dinner on Saturday sans kids! Yay! We ate a ton too much at the Texas Roadhouse, but my oh my, was it good!!! Then Sunday we were able to present the camp at a baby church that was started by some friends of my family. They actually attended the church my dad pastored while they were in AZ. It was almost like a time warp because quite a few of the people at this new church were ones that I grew up attending church with. De ja vous!!
Unfortunately come Sunday afternoon Myles was have diaper issues. Issues that sent us through WAY more diapers than we normally use, and consequently I had to make a trip to the store for more, AND more wipes this morning. But I was hoping that was the only trouble… no such luck. This morning though, I slept in, so I missed the first couple of dramas. Apparently Myles woke up and had a BLOW OUT diaper, even in his “overnight” huggies! So my hubaroo and my thoughtful mom-in-law, plunked him in the tub and scrubbed him up. Then at breakfast, apparently he spit up. Only… it wasn’t just spit up or “burp” as Qade calls it…. it was puke. Yep, and this wasn’t the last time. After I finally emerged onto the scene he had a second episode. *sigh* Sick kids and car seats do not make a good mix in my experience, but we had to come home today so….
Fast forward to about an hour down the road. Lunch all over again. I nearly didn’t make it through that clean up. :-( Ugh!!! But the poor boy, I just felt so bad for him. I felt pretty bad for the rest of us too as we had a very distinct aroma travel with us the rest of the way. I kept the vent blowing right on my face even though it made me cold.
Well, we had to stop and get groceries, so the time in the store was a respite from the ickyness of the vehicle. I half expected to hear of another horror story from Stu when I got out, but the lad made it through. While unloading groceries into the car I jabbed my finger on one of the packages and got a paper cut UNDER my nail!!! Owie!!!!!
Finally we made it home. The first thing I saw when I walked into the house was a pile of cat puke ON THE TABLE!!! I garnished some rubber gloves and a bunch of disinfectant wipes and blitzed that mess before bringing the boys in.
I put the stinky lad in the tub and held my breath while scrubbing him down for his second time today. We had a late dinner and as of right now everything has stayed where it is supposed to. Myles will be spending the night in our room in case he needs attention in the night.
I got the lads to bed, and while I was brushing Qade’s teeth I watched as the cat somehow managed to contort himself in a way that allowed him to drink from the toilet. He then hoped into the tub and scratched the bottom a couple times before relieving himself right there!! WHAT!!! Who taught him THAT??? So I then put the shower on HOT and let it run in the tub for awhile. Gross…. On a day when I have to deal with a puking, nasty diaper filling child, I should not ALSO have to deal with a cat’s issues.
Oh brother.
So, needless to say, my stomach (which is NOT made of steel) isn’t feeling too hot this evening. BUT I’m quite sure it’s from all the carnage, and nothing more serious. Lets just hope that we can have a peaceful, clean, nice smelling night. And there’s NO WAY I’m letting that cat sleep on MY bed tonight!

P.S. Hope I didn’t gross ya out too much. ;-)

At the end of the day…

2010
02.12

…. when every last shred of patience has left me. When there is a sink full of dirty dishes. When there are crumbs on the floor from the meals of the day. When there is a dryer full of clothes to fold. When two little boys have spent the majority of the last half hour crying. When I haven’t had a shower. When my stomach hurts. When I wonder how I will EVER cope once “homeschooling” starts as I can’t seem to get on top of things NOW! When it’s just been “one of those days” at least for the last few hours (they’re what count, right?) It’s nice to have a little boy who though he was acting like a hoodlum only minutes before, will see you lie on the couch and come give you a kiss and “Sing Sunshine” to you. :-) It went like this “You are sunshine, you are sunshine, I love you, sunshine away.” Then he proceeded to hum a verse for me too. ;-) I usually sing it twice to him and then hum through once as he is settling in for the night. So sweet! Then he walked into the dining room, saw the yet uncleaned up table and came back to say, “Thank you lunch, Mommy.” Heart meltage right there! :-D Ahhhh… guess the day hasn’t been so bad after all.

Of course… there’s still bed time. (dum-de-dum-dum!) ;-)

Meet Liam

2010
02.09

Well, here I am! Did you notice I was missing? Probably not. :-) We took an impromptu get-a-way for the weekend so the lads could spend time with their grandparents, and we could get a different view. It was fun! On our little ramble we happened to go to the humane society and we found…..

Drum roll…..

Liam!
Liam

He was already named and it stuck. We looked at several cats, they did have quite a selection. BTW that place was AMAZING!!! I thought all humane societies were nasty, smelly, dirty places like the one closest to us, but not so! It totally took us by surprise. Anyway, we kept coming back to Liam, and so decided he was THE ONE! However when we went to get the papers started we discovered that he was on “stray hold.” That means he had a family before, but got lost or something, and they had to keep him for certain days in case the family claimed him. *sigh* But they said it was “up” the very next day! Only then he would need to be “fixed” and all that great stuff. So we revisited some of the other cat options, but just couldn’t get Liam out of our head. We decided to pre-adopt him and then work out the details. As Stu had to be back for work, we opted for me and the lads to stay a couple days more for some extra spoiling while we waited for everything to work out. It went swimmingly! No owners showed up, surgery went well (poor guy), cat ready for pick up and voila! we have our kitty. :-)
My dad drove us, cat and all, to meet Stuart this afternoon and we’re now all one big happy family again. Liam chewed his way out of the cardboard box we had him in before we were even out of town, and spent his car ride either on my lap or ON TOP of the box between the boys in back. That had me nervous for a little while because I didn’t know how his temperament would be with the stress of being moved in the car with two lads trying to pet him. He was awesome though. He didn’t mind being touched at all and in fact spent a little time half sprawled on Myles legs. CUTE! Myles very seriously studied him while he was that close, but was extremely gentle when touching him. Yay!!
Liam is settling in well. He doesn’t seem “freaked out” at all by the house or anything. He has spent much of the evening exploring, but when it turned out to be basically a house he chose the comfiest chair and took a good cat nap. :-)
Hope you’re having a swell week. Toodles!
P.S. I got behind on my photo blog due to being out of town, but I DID take pics so if you want to see them just head over to my flickr page.

Another Day

2010
01.30

Except this day is SUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNY!!! Woo-Hoo! I was going to have to beat my head on the walls if we had another dull day! Plus we have company and that’s fun. Qade and Myles are having a grand time with their Grandparents Noggle. Auntie Tiff and Aiden were supposed to come yesterday as well, but the nasty icy roads prevented them by making the car slide off!!! Thankfully everyone was okay, and the only damage was the bumper being pulled off. Mendable for sure! Well, I believe they are going to “give it a go” again today, so hopefully since it’s SUNNY they will be able to make it just fine. Qade will have a blast playing with Aiden. He talks about him often but doesn’t get to spend nearly enough time with him.

This weekend we are celebrating Masona’s 83rd birthday!! I made some “can’t leave em alone bars” and Ina is fixing pasoli stew. Others are bringing other lovely delights and the feasting will be great! I bought Masona a “hoops and yo-yo” card that yells “Happy Birthday!” when you open it up :-D

Last night Stu and I took advantage of the Grand-babysitters and went to a basketball game at the high school. Our little “town” is really hard up for entertainment and even harder put to find a good babysitter. :-) So we took advantage of both options. The games were fun. Stu knows most of the students so he would pass along little tid-bits of information about them while we watched. The JV girls game was really close, but the Varsity boys got totally spanked. :-D Oh well, it was fun!

Hope you all have a great weekend. I need to go deal with a very grumpy child. ;-) Ta-ta!
