Ella’s 1 yr Cake Smash

2011
10.31

This is kind of a quick post. I’m going to keep words to a minimum because I simply could NOT choose my very favoritest photos of this darling little one yr old, so there will be a lot to look at. :) I just want to say that she and I had SOOOO much fun doing this. It’s my favorite photo shoot to date! Maybe because I was a little more relaxed about what I wanted to “get” and maybe because she’s gotten used to “hamin’ it up for the camera. Either way, it was so fun, and I got the biggest kick out of her reaction to the tutu and the bites of cake that I fed her. No, she still won’t put things that don’t line up in her mind with “food” in her mouth. She’s finally chomping on the biter biscuits, but baby puffs? Forget about it! Ha!

Anyway, here’s my sweetie Ella de Bella in her 1 yr old portraits! Started w/ polka dots so that she could have a picture that “matched” the boys. :) I love these! She totally wrestled that giant 1! Tossed it down then picked it back up, all while standing up on her own.

Look at this face!! She did not know what to think of all this girlie tule! ;)

But then she cheered up. :)

She totally forgot about the tutu when I handed her the sprinkles!

Okay, so I have no idea why these look a little funky on the blog. If you want to see the “real” photo just click on it and it will take you to the flickr page. I’m too lazy right now to figure it out. :) Ha ha!

Finally on the wall

I finally got a frame for my odd sized photo of the munchkins. This photo is an example of times when I have a certain “look” in my mind and I do everything in my power to make it happen, and of course it doesn’t, but I end up with an image that grows on me so much that I just fall in love with it and wouldn’t have loved my “vision” image any where nearly as much. (how’s that for a runon sentence? Ha!) Point is, I love this photo of my kids! I love all the little “imperfections” about it. The fact that there’s no “extra” space, Myles is trying to escape, Qade is totally entranced by his sis, and Ella has only the littlest smile. It’s my kiddos and it’s so much them! :)

Now it’s finally on the wall. I got motivated yesterday and started putting holes all over the place. ;) This was just the beginning. I now have quite a few other photos hanging up along with this one. Eventually I’ll post an image of that. I believe it will be a work in progress for a little while. I’m trying to clear out the living room wall space to have places for (hopefully) gallery wraps. I’d like to display some of those as options for my clients who come, but I have to get some good images of our family and kids first. Yeah, work in progress. :)

Anyway, at least it’s begun. I also managed to get all of my “coffee” stuff up in the new kitchen. I like the effect. :)

Ta ta for now!

Not the best move

Someone misinformed the arachnids in our area that our sink is a good place to hang out. :( I find a spider in my sink nearly every morning, and sometimes more than once a day. I have no idea where they are coming from and how they get there, but I generally wash them down every chance I get.

The other day I was breaking up some ice and there was a big chunk I threw in the sink. When I came back a little bit later this was what I saw.

DSC_3419

Apparently no one ever informed him that crawling across a big chunk of ice was a bad idea. I think he was kind of frozen here. I don’t know if spideys are what you’d call “cold blooded” (is that goo that makes up their guts, blood?) but I do know that they don’t move so well when it’s cold. :) This dude eventually took a spin down our garbage disposal.

One down about 500 million to go! Ick!!

Lil Book Worms

All three munchkins are now into books. :) Ella doesn’t quite get the concept that they open and pages turn, but she does like to hold onto them and gaze at the covers. And woe be to any overzealous lad who tries to take a book away from her that she is not “done” with yet. Oh my! She has learned to hold her own when it comes to her “possessions” and that could be anything from a little bag of fruit snacks (not opened) that she’s crawling around with, or one of THEIR precious cars that she got ahold of. :)

But this moment is not about those sibling spats. It’s about all 3 of them calmly sitting on the floor entertaining themselves by looking at books. No movie on, no one trying to climb my pant legs, no one pushing, hitting, scratching or screaming. Ahhhhhhhhhh……

Lets enjoy this moment. :)

Myles 3 yr old shoot

2011
10.20

I got a chance to do Myles and Aiden’s birthday pictures last weekend! :) I’m glad it worked out for Aiden to be here so I could snag his as well. They both had similar set ups to Qade’s because I was going for a homogenous look for Qade and Myles and since I was too lazy to set up a different thing for Aiden, he got the same as well. :) It works. They won’t always be this easy to accommodate, ya know? ;)

Anyway, I thought I’d do “Toy Story” with Myles instead of cars like Qade. While the boy loves his trucks and cars, he’s a huge Toy Story fan, so this works for his 3 yr old pics.
DSC_3215

I can’t decide if I like the big grin or the quieter happy face better. He’s just so stinkin’ cute!
DSC_3223

The big 3. :) I have plans to do number poses with them till 5 at least, but since I have the numbers, I may just do them till they decide to move out so mom can’t take their photos any more. ;)
DSC_3246

I liked this one because it was a serious moment when he wasn’t really expecting me to snap one. ;)
DSC_3267

Gotta love his favorite Scooby Doo’s as he calls his crocs. ;)

Happy boy!

I love this expression!!

Yeah, he’s a little bit silly, and I love him to bits!!

Lush Lashes

2011
10.19

My eyelashes have gone through some trials since having kids. Who knew that so much can change about you when you become a mom?? Weird!

Anyway, I randomly stumbled across a news article about this lash enhancer stuff. I was intrigued because recently my dad has had some amazing eyelash growth due to some prescription drops that he has to use for an eye condition. I hadn’t realized before that there really are products that can do that!! WOW! I wanted to snitch the drops and try them for myself, but didn’t think that would really be a wise plan since I don’t have an actual “need” for them.

So when I saw the article I clicked on some of the products. BTW, I can’t find the link to the article I read, or I’d put it up for ya. Sorry about that. Anyway, this product got rave reviews in the article, and said that 100% of it’s users had seen some improvement in their lashes in 30 days or something. Whatever, I can’t remember all of it. But the link it originally took me to said that it’s regularly priced at $129. Believe it or not! HOWEVER, right now (for a limited time of course) you can get it with free shipping for $29.95. :)

So I did. :) Hee hee. I want to have lashes as pretty as Qades… seriously, that lad has the most amazing eye lashes, and it’s simply not fair. Ha!

So I will let you know if I see any remarkable progress once it arrives and I start to use it. I hope to see some thickening and lengthening, but we’ll see. Anyway, here is the link to the stuff if any of you might be interested. :) It’s called… uh… well, I can’t remember, but if you click the link you can see it for yourself. :)

Toodles!

Mommies don’t get sick days

2011
10.18

This cold, or whatever, that has slowly been making it’s way through our ranks is just miserable. Ella’s poor nose is really nasty, and she HATES having it wiped!! She’d rather crawl around with mess all over her face, but I just can’t deal with that. Myles has a yucky sounding cough which he is trying to learn to cover with his elbow. Unfortunately he’s usually mostly done coughing by the time he remembers. He has a gross nose as well, but I can actually tell him to get a tissue and wipe it and he does pretty well.

So with all of those icky germs sliming and floating around in our house is it any wonder that I got the cold too? No, not really. When you’re a mom, one of your most amazing accessories is baby/kid snot all over your shirt. Oh yeah… that’s one of the things they don’t tell ya. ;)

So I’ve got the cold now. I’m congested and have a sore throat. But for some unknown reason my colds tend to gravitate to my head and cause what I call dizzies. BLAH! It’s something that happens a couple times a year. Usually coinciding with a cold or onset of allergy season.

I knew before my eyeballs opened this morning that this would be one of those dizzy days. I don’t enjoy them at all. When I was a teacher, I’d call in sick for at least half a day to try and sleep it off. Sleep seems one of the best ways to get rid of the condition. BUT now that I’m a mommy…. who do I call to have a sick day? Even half?? Nope, nobody. *sigh*

I know that people think that since you’re “stay at home” that must mean you can lounge around in your jammies and slippers all day, and basically just take life easy anyway. Does it really work that way for anyone? I mean, where in the world did that preconception come from? When I “take it easy” for a day stuff piles up on the counter tops at an alarming rate, the clothes hamper virtually explodes, and every kids toy that has been lost or loved, comes out of hiding and litters the floor. And the work to “catch up” on the next day kind of cancels out any ease taking I did previously.

The kids of course go wild, and any “rest” I get is in the form of sitting quietly trying not to move my head and trying not to imagine the damage and destruction that might be going on around me. (I just had to scold Myles for trying to rip apart one of his sister’s birthday toys- arg!) Yes, there are those days when I wish I could call in a replacement and just sleep the morning away. But mommies don’t get sick days. We’re the ones who bandaid the boo-boos, wipe the snot, distribute the meds and, the lads favorite, honey. We fix the chicken noodle soup and crackers, clean up the spills, change the clothes and bedding, wake up at 4 am to do any and all of the above. That’s our “job” it comes with the title. Even on days like today when I would like to “call in sick” and just take care of ME for a little while, I know that I’m so blessed to have this job!!

I’ll save up my sick days and take them when in 18 years we have an empty nest. I know at that time I’ll be longing for the days when I could put my dizzy head aside in order to wipe a nose. There will be plenty of time then to “put my feet up” and sip my coffee in solitude. But then I will be wishing for a little destructive noise to gain my attention. It’s such a short span of time that I get to actively fulfill this special job of “stay at home mom” that I can’t afford to take sick days. I need to be engaged and active, and enjoy every moment of these crazy days. Even when I have the dizzies. :)

Myles Birthday

2011
10.18

This year we did something fun and had a joint b-day party for Myles and his cousin Aiden. Aiden’s birthday is Nov. 19, and with it being so close to Thanksgiving and other factors, (SNOW) we’ve never been able to go to one of his parties. I’m glad it worked out this year for us to do it like this. In fact, Tiffany and I are contemplating just doing ONE giant birthday bash for all the kids once a year and having it over with. Ha ha ha!! Well… it’s a nice thought. ;)

Anyway, it worked out for us to head to Colorado and have the party right on Myles birthday! How often does that happen? We woke up about 2am the morning of and saw fluffy white snowflakes falling, and sure enough in the morning was a beautiful blanket of snow. :) That was exciting and it took a lot of talking to convince the boys that we didn’t bring gloves/boots/scarves and such to go roll around in it. It was gone by noon so we were able to do some of the partying outside, like piñata. That is NOT an indoor activity, oh no. :)

Tiffany’s MIL made an amazing cake that was Peter Pan themed. The party had a Pan/Pirate theme and it was fun, but this cake was awesome!! The boys spent some time just gazing at it when it arrived. Myles had his own personal piece with a treasure chest on it and actual edible treasure! It was cool!
DSC_2427

Captain Hook came to visit the party and promptly scared Myles to death. The voice might sound a bit like Popeye, but it certainly didn’t LOOK like him. Ha ha!
DSC_2485

It took a bit of convincing, but finally Myles warmed up to him a little. ;)

Candles!! Three for my big boy!
DSC_2500

The cake was delicious too! As you can see. ;) (On a side note, I made those little “Pan” hats, but I can’t really take credit, Tiffany came up with the idea, I just followed her instructions.)
DSC_2530
Piñata time!! Woo hoo!! Myles wasn’t quite sure what to do with it at first. This was a “built FORD tough” kind of piñata as well, and we were all surprised just how long it held up to the beatings of all the kids. :)

He was very spoiled on his big day! Thanks to everyone who got him gifts!! He has had a blast playing with them all. Thanks Ina for finding the elusive Tonka Truck as well! He loves all the stuff he got.

Us and our birthday boy! He’s resigned himself to being “Free” instead of four for now. ;)
DSC_2862

I have a zillion more pictures of his party, and I’m going to post some in the upcoming days. I just can’t not post some of the “game faces” I caught at the piñata and such. :)

Thanks again Tiff for making it such a wonderful party! Oh, and I have to get the recipe or whatever for the drink with fruit and berries in it that you made. :) Yum!! Thanks to my amazing MIL, Ina, for the awesome Navajo Tacos she made. I love those!! It was a great party, and the boys had such a good time, and so did we. Ella basically slept through the whole thing, but I think that was best. :)

I’m impetuous

2011
10.17

I can from time to time be recklessly impulsive. Most of the time it has to do with my hair. Don’t know why it just exhibits itself that way. I suppose because it’s one of the least permanent impulsive things I can do. ;) I mean, it’s JUST hair, it does grow back. I’ve been less impetuous with my hair since I met the man beyond my dreams and he has declared a very decided preference for how he likes my hair. Long. That doesn’t leave much room for impulses. ;) When we moved to Greenville after getting married and I went for a ‘trim’ the guy who cut my hair was surprised that it hadn’t always been that long. I guess if a gal has really long hair, people assume she’s never had it short. Well, I’m here to tell ya, it’s been Tinkerbell pixie short before. ;)

It’s not now… no worries. ;) But I do have a confession to make. I have messed up my hair on more than one occasion because I thought I could just do it. I’ve watched you-tube videos and online tutorials on how to cut/trim/whatever your own hair. And whether it’s because I just don’t possess the talent for dealing with hair, or it’s because my hair is THICK, and has a mind of it’s own, it nearly never comes out like the pictures online. ;) And then I’m left with the mess and I get all depressed and just hate my hair more than I did before I was SURE that I needed to try this “thing” and well… while it does grow back, the process takes awhile. :)

Why I never learn from this process is what boggles my mind. :) Seriously, it’s been repeated enough times that you’d think I could learn. Still, I sit and fume over my own hair, and lack of style and then I browse websites like this one. And then I just chop 8 inches off of my hair without batting an eyelash. And this is what I’m left with.
Photo on 10-17-11 at 2.49 PM

I used to ALWAYS have bangs no matter the hair style. I have a rather prominent (to me anyway) forehead, and so I tried to minimize it with hair. But somehow (I still can’t remember how or when exactly it happened) I grew them out, and from that day to now I have had a strong aversion to hair in my face. BUT recently I’ve also been growing an aversion to NEVER looking put together. And I figure that if I have bangs, I can at least “do” them and I’ll look somewhat put together, even if the rest of my hair is still a hot mess. The last couple of times I’ve “tried” bangs have been a disaster, so I’m hoping this will be different.

Guess I’m stuck with it for now. :) It’s on trial for a couple of days. It’s a little on the long side for my liking, though you can’t really have sideswept bangs short. Oh well. One day I’ll have the perfect hair….. I think.

Here’s a short vid clip from Amy McCready.  She’s the name I couldn’t remember from the previous post.  This isn’t new information for me.  I’ve heard it multiple times before in various situations from education courses to preschool teacher training, but it was good for me to listen to it again.  It’s amazing how easy it is to forget this stuff!!!  The difference in the response from your kids when you just change a little something in the way you talk to them is amazing!!

Watch this!
