So…..

I’ve been in a bit of a blog funk. Dunno…. Kinda bored… not motivated… allergies, that kinda thing.

Oh well, I decided that today I would do a blog anyway. :) The best way to get energy is to give energy! Right?

Qade and Myles have been cracking us up lately with their own special takes on Spiritual things! Oh to have the faith of a child! :) This past Sunday their teacher told me that while the lady was reading the story, she said, “God can set you free! Do you want to be free?” and Myles piped up, “I want to be four!” LOL!!! I’m glad she told me about that. It made me smile! Qade went on to inform us that “Gothrow painted the lamp with blood” keep in mind they have been learning about Moses and the plagues. We really couldn’t understand what this was, so I asked him, “Was it a lamb?” (thinking passover, ya know) Qade said, “No, it was a lamp.” Hmmmmmm?????

Anyway they keep us on our toes. I’ve been reading the boys Bible stories from the Jesus Bible Story Book (love that one!) and the other day we got to the story of Jon the baptist, and the boys were all enthralled with the concept that he ate “hoppers” and honey! :) Ha ha ha!! They might not have caught the part about him baptizing Jesus, but they know he ate hoppers!

It’s funny that when we listen to the Jungle Jam story of “Nermal and the Ark” Qade always goes to the bathtub and brings out the boat that they play with in there. He’ll park his cars along the “deck” and drive the boat all along the floor as he listens to the story. It amazed me the fist time we listened to it when he said to no one in particular, “Jonah said no, but Noah said yes!” !!! Truth sinks in even when we don’t think they are paying attention. :)

Yesterday I hunkered down and got 3 monthly menus planned. Sept Oct and Nov are done!! Woo-hoooo!!! It was a little on the depressing side for me as I realized that Summer is done, and Fall is on it’s way. *sigh* I just started to get thawed out, what’s up with that!? In fact for the most of summer, I still wore a sweatshirt all morning inside. Oh well, ya can’t change the weather I suppose. :)

Anyway, it was a bit of a challenge on that many menus, but it really wasn’t THAT hard once I got into it. I had my “leftover day” which I switched from Thurs to Tues since I’ve been doing Zumba on Tuesdays! (more on that later) And I worked on having “Meatless Monday” each week too. Then I threw in a “crock pot” day for each week, and a “soup day” for nearly each week. It starts to get really easy then. There are, of course, repeat dishes, but if you think about it, you probably eat the same things over again anyway. So I threw in the favorites a few times, sprinkled in some “new” recipes and had my “breakfast for dinner’ a couple times a month, and voila! It’s done! :)

It really is amazing how much pressure it takes off to have the menu there and know exactly what will be for dinner. It also takes a lot of stress out of shopping. On grocery days, I just look at that week’s menu, check the cabinets/freezer for ingredients, and add what I need to the list. Easy-peasy! It also helps me know what I may need to do ahead of time. Like if I see “crock pot chili” on the menu for the next night, I’ll know I need to soak some beans overnight. I like to keep it simple, and then do my experiments on different and new baking items or special stuff.

We eat different foods in the fall/winter than in the summer, so the first thing I did was sort the recipes that I wanted to use from the ones I wouldn’t. Then just plugged them into the menu. I simply LOVE soups and stews and chili in the fall and winter, so that worked out well to have at least one “soup” day a week. I’m so glad that Stu loves those foods as well!! (Except for the corn chowder fiasco, but we don’t have to drag that up! LOL)

The last 2 Tuesdays I’ve been going to a Zumba class in ‘town.’ I have a friend who has been going with me, for moral support so that I don’t feel like the only clown in the class. ;) It’s a great exercise!! The class goes about 55 minutes, but it really doesn’t feel that long. Last night I felt like I was catching on a bit better. I could certainly tell when I was in the rhythm, but I have a long way to go! Ha ha! But it’s fun, and exercise and a way to get out of the house and a break from kiddos too! I think I’ll really enjoy it!

Stu took the monkeys and our Punky Munkin for a hike last night while I was gone. They all seemed to have a really good time, though Ella seemed a bit more “ready” for her nap this morning. Guess that hiking really did her in. ;) Ha!

SO that’s kinda what I’ve been up to. The Fall-time allergies have kicked in, so that is NO fun, but I’m thankful for the little white pills that are supposed to help…. they can start helping any old time too! ;) Hope you are having a fun week!

Toodle-oodles!

Not ME!

I did not download some really cute PDF picture “chore” cards for my lads and then somehow “lose” it in the depths of my computer.

I also didn’t spend an hour looking through a bunch of random files trying to find it last night. Nope!

Okay, I did! I confess! I’m trying to schedule the lad’s days, mornings specifically, to help channel some of that spastic energy of theirs. Great idea to have little cards with pictures of their chores on them. GREAT idea if I could find the silly things! *sigh*

I did not forget to pack a lunch for my hubby last night before bed. :(

I also didn’t manage to get up early enough to do it for him this morning. :(

My hubby would NEVER have to go to work with no lunch. :( But he did have a good breakfast! Guess I’d better plan something substantial for dinner!

I did not go in to check on the lads before bed last night and find a sopping wet Myles. I would not have then just pulled off his jammies, put a new pull-up on him and just leave the wet bed till morning. Nopers!

(I did change the sheets this morning though, so that counts for something, right? :) )

I’ve got quite a bit of organizing to get done today, so I’d better stop reminiscing on the stuff I didn’t do. ;) Toodles for today!

So’s ya know

I wasn’t talking about our current church, or any particular church at all, in the last post. Yesterday we had a GREAT day at church. I’ve just noticed over time, that it seems churches (some that I have been in) tend toward the “bad news” side of things. It’s something I’ve thought about for a long time and it just kinda bubbled out. :)

I think we need to embrace the hope that we have in Jesus and not get so caught up in the bad news of the society and world in general.

There’s enough REAL bad news out there, we don’t need to borrow trouble. :)

That’s all.

Bad News

2011
08.28

Did I get you’re attention with that title? :) No, I don’t have any bad news for you. And I’m sure that’s a good thing because we all have had enough bad news I think.

I’ve been especially weary of “bad news.” One of the reasons I avoid Fox and other news networks is because of all the bad news they spew all over. The economy is bad, the weather is bad, the nation is bad, the president is bad, congress is bad, the world is bad… bad, bad, bad! I get so tired of bad.

I was thinking about this the other day and how it relates to church. Have you ever gone to church and left just feeling bad? Not bad as in “wrong” but just bad. Discouraged, down in the dumps, run down, depressed, disheartened, hopeless, just…. bad? I have. I have plenty of times, and ya know, I think it’s wrong of the church to make believers feel bad. I’ve come to that firm conclusion.

When I read the Bible, I don’t feel bad. In fact, I find it just the opposite! I find victory in the Bible. I find Hope, Love, Forgiveness, Redemption, and GOOD NEWS!!! Yes, there are stories of “bad” people and bad things that happen to people and nations, but there is always hope in God even in those darkest of times.

Why doesn’t that come across in church? Why do we seem to have the “need” to react to all the bad news in our culture and proclaim it through the teaching and testimony of church? Why???? Honestly, I don’t need preachers and teachers and church leaders to tell me things are bad. I see that all around. I hear it on the radio, and news, and Facebook, and anywhere you look. Bad news is all around us, we don’t need the church to tell us things are bad. What we, or at least I, need from church is some encouragement, and reminders that amidst the bad news of this life there is GOOD NEWS that trumps it all!

I’d like to leave church, or the radio program, or even fellowship with believers feeling that I had received some good news! Uplifted, encouraged, strengthened, and hopeful. That’s what we need to be. As believers in Christ and followers of Jesus, we have the GOOD NEWS. Lets live like we have it! Live like we believe it! And above all, share it!! Share the good news with those who are wandering around wallowing in the despair of all the bad news that surrounds them on a daily basis.

Lets not walk defeated with our heads down over the sad state of the culture we find ourselves in. Let’s rise above all that bad news with the knowledge of the good news that puts it all back into the proper perspective.

(rant over) :)

It’s the little things….

The other day while my dad was out for a visit, he took the boys for a “hike” before lunch. They came back all rosy cheeked from their hike, and both proudly holding a fistful of “flowers.” They actually were rather pungent weeds, but they did have pretty flowers! :) Purple and white, just lovely! Qade informed me that they also had “pea pods” on them. Instead of pea pods what I saw was this….

Do you see it? :) I was holding a bunch of weeds full of tiny hearts! That’s when my heart melted of course! :) I’ll take my pea pod hearts over any bundle of fancy flowers any day!

Different way of Lookin at the World

Before Ella learned her mermaid, which she is still sticking to as her favorite method of locomotion, she used to look at the world a little different. See, she’s never been too fond of being on her tummy at all. Took her ages to decide to roll over, and then she’d be upset because she was “stuck” on her tummy. Eventually she figured out how to roll back and all was well. However, why roll over when you can do THIS!
DSC_0113

Yep, if something interesting was going on in the other side of the room she’d just use her head as a periscope… but the other way. Ha! She has amazing balance on her head and tush by the way. Look at the arch in her back!
DSC_0124

It would just crack me up to watch her do this. But it looks so awfully uncomfortable that Stuart tried to talk her out of it a time or two. No avail, she’d do it again and again. SO funny!!

And the last one is just for fun! ;)

The 25-hundred humming birds that like to frequent my feeder are draining it at a record rate! I filled it this afternoon, and it’s empty again now. Thirsty little guys. And on another note in the bird world, I saw some strange birds today that were eating the finch food. They kind of looked like goldfinches but where the gold should have been was bright blue. Weird!

I bought a McCormick’s Sea Salt grinder and a Peppercorn Medley grinder and that pepper one is SOOOOOO delish! It’s got a lot of flavor and it’s so much better than just regular black pepper. It’s especially good on eggs. Happy for that little accidental nugget of a find. :)

Myles only used ONE pair of unders today!! This is something worth celebrating!!! He has been doing pretty well with the training, but we’ve still been averaging about 2 unders a day, and yesterday it was more like 4, ugh! But he made up for it today, I guess!

Ella is getting better about the solids that I keep popping in her mouth, but still is no where close to putting any of it in herself. Do you think we can get her there in time for her birthday cake?? ;) Speaking of her cake, I’m kind of torn between doing those cutsie little pink “cake pops” and doing a new recipe I just found for “Strawberry Milk Whoopie Pies” Hmmmm…. any thoughts? ;)

I went to Zumba for the first time last night. It was quite a workout! I should have taken a towel because I was schwetty! But it was a lot of fun even if I did feel like a very awkward giraffe! You can totally tell I’m NOT a dancer. Ha! But maybe this class will endow me with a bit better rhythm. ;) “Cha, cha, cha”

Photography is at a standstill. Please tell people to hire me for their pictures. Thanks! :)

I still haven’t decided on which of our family shots to print. Mulling that one over. I need to print them and Qade’s 4 yr old pictures as well. I’m already plotting Myles’ photo shoot, and I’m hopping to get Ella’s 11 month one in on Saturday.

We still don’t have our curtains back up in our “new” kitchen, and it creeps me out at night. Not that there’s anyone around here to be peeking in the windows, but I still don’t like it…. too many silly ghost stories at sleepovers when I was a kid. ;)

I’m on a diet. :) I’ll spare you all the details, but I’ve been keeping a food log and that seems to help. Down 2 lbs! :)

My skin doesn’t really like me right now. Don’t know what it’s deal is. I’m going to give it a coconut oil treatment tonight. Ahhhh!

I love reading books on my Kindle!! I’ve been flying through the L.M. Montgomery books I got and now am in the middle of an Agatha Christy book! I’m amazed at how many books you can get for FREEEEEEEE! Woo-Hooo!! The copyright has expired on those books so they are totally free, and you can share them and all that good stuff. BUT you’d still have to pay for it if you went to a bookstore to get a copy. Interesting, isn’t it? ;) Glad I like the classics. Oh, and strangest of all, I found 2 Jane Austen books I’d never heard of. How in the world is that?? Like a special little treasure after all this time. I’ll be starting one of those after I finish my current book. :)

I’m no-pooing again. ;) You DO remember what that is don’t you? Ha ha ha! I’ve quit shampoo again in favor of baking soda. Since my hair is shorter, it seems to be working well. I still use just a teeny dab of conditioner on the ends, and all has been well. :) Soft shiny hair! We’ll see if it lasts! So far I haven’t done the vinegar rinse again, but I’ll probably do it every other week or so. It’s amazing what a little vinegar and baking soda can do for your hair! Wow!

Ella will have NOTHING to do with her sippy cup. At all…..

School is coming up with Qade, my oh my! He is excited about it when we talk it over, so I’m sure we’re going to have fun. We’ll be working our way through the Answers in Genesis Preschool books. I’m looking forward to all the scripture memory and songs. Not so much the “projects.” I’m not much of a project mom, but guess there’s always room for change. :) And glue…. and glitter… and scissors and tape…. and paint…. *sigh*

I have recently found several really YUMMMMMY looking recipes for Fall!!! After I reach my goal weight, I will celebrate by making some of them. HOWEVER, I am not thrilled that Fall is just around the corner. I have facebook friends who are already hanging their Fall decorations and I find that an absolute crime! It’s not even September yet!!!! It shouldn’t BE Fall!!!! And it’s not, by the way. Just because you hang up your wreath does not make it Fall, and I refuse to even discuss the subject further till after Labor day. Then we can negotiate it’s commencement to begin near October. Thank you! :)

And I think that’s about it for now. Brain is coming up empty for once. ;) Ta ta till next time!

A few more

Sorry, I just had to put up a few more of the photos Alli got for us. :) I was going through them today trying to decide which ones to print. I’ll have to come back to that, because I just can’t make up my mind! :) In the mean time you can enjoy a few more shots. At least I hope you enjoy them. ;) Everyone assumes that everyone else is JUST as enamored with their family as they are… it’s a nice thought, ha!

Our Family

Here’s a few of the shots we got yesterday. Like I said, I have given up, for the present, getting all the kids looking the same direction. But regardless of eyes these are some good shots, and they capture our family pretty well! Thanks so much Alli for your help! You all should check out her blog sometime. She’s a great photo-snapper, and her post are fantastic and uplifting!

Here is we!

Adventures of a Family Portrait Session

2011
08.20

It’s good for me to be on the other side of the camera. For one thing it helps me relate to what my clients are going through in part. It can’t be quite the same because, as I’ve said before and probably will again, it’s different trying to direct your own kids to “pose” even in a “non posing” way that will work for portraits. Even though we had camera help from our good friend Alli, I was still the one “setting up” the session, so that proved difficult. I can understand a bit more the parent frustration when you have an idea in your mind for a beautiful family photo and your kids are running around like big-foot. Yep.

We got to the location, and it was a touch darker than I would have liked because of some heavy cloud cover. But oh well, can’t chase the clouds away. So there was an open field with beautiful sunflowers that worked swell, yay! The boys, I think, never stopped talking for one moment of this session, and believe me we hurried!

After the first few attempts at photos in which we couldn’t get the kids to look the same direction at once, of course why should I expect it? Ha! Qade promptly sliced his finger while trying to pick a flower, poor guy. Those flowers may be pretty, but they don’t like being picked! SO of course he was dramatic for awhile after.
DSC_0954

Since everyone was “done” with the sitting on the ground idea, we tried a standing up pose. But Myles refused to hold Qade’s hand until Daddy said, “Okay guys let’s pray.” Then he did, but his face looked like THIS!
DSC_0985

So we walked a bit farther into the field to get some of the mountain in the background. The lads decided that the grass was just way too difficult to walk through on their own.
DSC_0995

Qade amused himself while we struggled to get the others situated.
DSC_1022

Thought we’d try a “people pile” picture, I mean, how hard can that be? But it was starting to sprinkle just slightly so we got lots of hands over eyes, and in mouth pictures from this set.
DSC_1042

Then we decided to give the fence a try….
DSC_1077

As you can see, it was an adventure. Yes, these particular shots make me feel stressed because I remember what it was like, but they make me laugh too. :) And that’s part of the point. If you can have fun, and make memories, AND get great photos from a session, you have succeeded! We did have a great time. It was fun to see Allison and she did a fantastic job snapping photos of our family! I didn’t get my “dream shot” but then, I don’t know that I need to. I won’t be creating any canvas wraps with the photos we got, but I will be filling my house with prints, because they are REAL memories and something that we will smile at and chuckle over for years to come!

Someday, I know, I will get “the” shot of our little family, and I’ll be able to have that awesome gallery wrap, but perhaps it’s just as well to wait till the kids are a wee bit older and can take and follow directions a bit better. :) In the mean time, I have plenty of happy memories from our little “Sun flower shoot.”

Oh, and in case you were thinking that the pics in this post are what I’ll be printing, they aren’t! :) They’re only snapshots along the way. TOMORROW I’ll post the “real” photos. Stay tuned for that!
