This n’ That

2010
11.30

I’ve kind of been in a mood-swing between wanting to blog (as in I always have a running “blogentary” going on in my head about what’s going on, thoughts and such) and not wanting to blog (as in take the time to sit at the computer and type out all those amazing blog posts in my head). Hmmmm… what to do. ;-)

Well for now I’m just writing this randomized post and perhaps sometime in the future I’ll get around to doing the others. I don’t feel “in the mood” for anything weighty or requiring much thought at the moment. Besides I think the Taco soup I made has declared war on my tummy and I’m just looking for a good distraction. ;-) I may have to cave in and drink the pink though. Blah!!!

In the spirit of my internal resolution to do more “projects” with the lads, tomorrow we will be making a paper chain to count down the days till Christmas. This will solve a couple of dilemmas. First, they will get to decorate the chain links with stickers!! Yay for no mess! That’s the biggest mental hurtle for me with the whole projects thing. I just don’t like the mess! So for now we will ignore paints, glitter, and glue and go for mommy-easy ideas. If you’ve got some shoot them my way! Second, it will assuage the mommy-guilt for NOT doing more projects with my kids. ;-) Third, hopefully it will give our poor Qade a better grasp of time. :-D He has been trying out different time concepts for awhile now. Everything that happened in the past is “yesterday.” But he doesn’t really get today and tomorrow, or by any means next weekend. SOMEBODY told him recently that something would happen “next weekend.” The child has been declaring just about every day to be ‘next weekend’ since then. I have no idea what is/was supposed to happen “next weekend” and apparently he doesn’t either, because it’s always a pretty vague answer when I ask what it is. He’ll often say, “It’s tomorrow now!” when he’s told that we can do something “tomorrow.” Or he’ll say, “This day is tomorrow.” Cute! So since we put the tree up on Sunday night he’s been telling me “It’s Christmas now!” So I’m hoping that having the tangible chain to let him know how many days are left might help him out a bit. :-) We’ll see if it works.

Today I’ve been making crock pot yogurt. It’s been wrapped in a blanket in my oven (cold) all afternoon with the light on. I’m dying to see if it worked, but I’ve got to give it a few more minutes.

Most of our Christmas shopping is done. I still have a few things to get, and I have to shop for Stu’s birthday AND Christmas! He always whines that his presents get “split” because his b-day is so close to Christmas, but he has no idea how much extra stress it places on us who are shopping for him. ;-) Every coin has 2 sides. Anyway, so I still have that to do and a few minor purchases to be made as well. We haven’t taken our Christmas card photo yet, so of course we haven’t ordered our Christmas cards either. Hmmm…. is tomorrow REALLY the first of Dec??? Oh well, you may be getting a late Christmas card from us this year. ;-)

Hope you are all having a spiffy week. Tomorrow I plan to post some pictures of Ella’s room. Per my mom’s request. ;-) The last time she saw it it was a complete and total disaster area!

Ta ta for now!

This week’s contest is scenic B&W images, with a face somewhere of course! :-) I enjoyed this challenge because I really need to work on my black and whites. I use color monochrome much more often. So it was good for me to look at my “scenic” photos thinking about how they would look in B&W and then tweaking that a little.

This shot is of Myles at Big Lake this summer. I love how itty-bitty he looks compared to his surroundings! If you want to see more really awesome photos then click the button at the bottom. TTFN!

I did Ella’s 2 month photo shoot today. My thoughts were that having my own studio setup and photography equipment would make getting the month by month portraits easier. Still it seems like there is hardly time to get them done and ordered let alone distributed to Ella’s adoring fans before it’s time to take another. :-) BUT I admit that I don’t miss going to Sears OR JCPenny for portraits every month!

Fall

2010
11.23

Fall is the theme for Shutter Love Tuesday. I had to go back through the zillions of photos I’ve taken over the past few Falls to find one I liked enough to post. Unfortunately where we are living now there aren’t as many “zing” type of Autumn colors. And I have to say that even our cottonwood trees were a dud this time around. BUT I found this “old” picture that had a little of the Fall “pow” to it that I love! :-) Someday I’ll make it to New England in the Fall. I’d love that!
October has been my favorite month ever since I was in Elementary school! Walking around in the Colorado mountains crunching the fallen leaves was so much fun! :-) Raking them into piles and then jumping in and throwing them all over were great memories too!
Hope you’re having a fabulous fall! You can see more of the photos and vote for your fave by clicking the button on the bottom.

Merry Monday

Well yesterday we did not make it into town because of the weather. The reports we were getting via the internet were all doom and gloom, ice and snow, not to mention high wind advisories. And even though we didn’t see a single flake here, or drop for that matter till after dark, we decided not to chance it. There’s a pretty dicy section of interstate between here and town where the weather seems to get particularly bad. So we opted not to try it. That also means that I wasn’t able to shop, which means that I will have to shop on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving!!! Oh no! I think the only thing worse than shopping the day after turkey-day (yes, I avidly avoid any and all black Friday shopping… unless it’s online!) is shopping the day before. :-) The shelves will be nigh empty I already know, though this is something that occurs in our area on a regular basis anyway. BUT since I’m not fixin’ the whole meal, I don’t think it’ll be too big of a problem. And the upside of all this is that for the next couple days I’ll be making “pantry meals.” That means actually using the plethora of stuff that gets shoved into the pantry and lost to the world for eons. Today we’re having chili again. :-) I’m on a kick, just love the stuff! Plus I had the “fixin’s” in my fridge needing to be either used or tossed. Glad I chose to use em’.

The Pioneer Woman is doing another editing assignment this week. I just have to say that it is NO FAIR that she gets to live on a ranch with MUSTANGS!!! Uh-Uh! There’s only cows and coyotes and an occasional antelope on the ranch where we live. *sigh* Oh well, at least I can live it vicariously through her blog. :-)

Here is her original image straight out of the camera.

There is this awesome consignment shop where my Mom lives called “Other Mothers.” I’ve shopped there for all of my kids. They’ll take your outgrown, gently used (which my lads have stopped “gently using” at this point) clothes and give you store credit for them. Then you can brows their abundant racks of clothes and get what you want/need at super-de-duper discount prices. :-) Which is good for we shopping-savvy challenged people.

Anyway, my mom and sis-in-law were shopping there a week or so ago and came across these adorable Christmas dresses that were almost just alike in different sizes.

I haven’t been in blog-land all week. Did you notice? I did. There were several days I felt like blogging, but I didn’t feel like trying to type on the iPad. I still haven’t got used to doing that. If it was all I did all the time I’m sure I could, but I simply like using regular keyboards better. I can go much faster too. :-) Doesn’t really improve my spelling though.
