Serious (almost) 3yr old conversation

Qade likes to sit and talk. He likes to be a big boy, and he likes for me to take him seriously. I think memories of my own childhood where I would be trying to communicate a thought, concept or idea to an adult only to have them give me that “oh-you’re-just-a-kid” chuckle and move on, help me to take the time to TRY to figure out what Qade is saying. I can see the wheels turning in his head and I know he has a great memory and puts things together on his own. I need to remember that he takes himself very seriously and I should too. :-)

So a couple of days ago I snuck into their room where they were playing with the door closed. This is the “newest” thing to do. They will go in there and close the door and play nicely (amazingly) together. Of course, deep down I believe the door is closed so Mommy won’t find out what they are doing. So occasionally I’ll pop my head in to make sure they really are behaving, and most of the time they are. :-) Anyway, I went in and flopped down on Qade’s bed. He put me to bed with his blanket and then sang “Sunshine” to me and said, “Close your eyes, Mommy!” Ha ha!! Then he fixed me dinner and told me all about his “house” which was the room. He showed me where the bathroom was, behind Myles’ crib and then he hopped in his animal bucket and went to “town” to visit Masona. :-D After all of that he came and sat on the bed with me and we just gabbed. We talked all about the things we did that day. We talked about the loud noise that the smoke detector makes, and how it scared us. (This made quite an impression on him and he has been pointing out smoke detectors in EVERY building we go into)! We laughed and talked and talked and laughed some more. He had just had a cup of water and while he was leaning on my legs I jiggled him and his tummy sloshed. His eyes got bigger and he asked, ‘What’s that?” So we sloshed it some more and talked about the water in his belly. We talked about the baby in my tummy, a subject new to him, but one he brings up frequently. :-)

We had a great time talking. He’s my little big guy and some days we lock horns all day, it seems, but others we have such a good time becoming better friends. I enjoy talking to him! I was thinking about that yesterday how when he was itty bitty I couldn’t wait for the time when he could actually talk to me and tell me things that were on his mind. Now we’re there, and I’m enjoying it immensely!!

Take 3

So I promise that my blog is not just going to become a before and after place for my photo experiments, but you’ll have to indulge me one last time. (For now) ;-)

I wasn’t happy with the result of my second go at the vintage tutorial. Don’t know if it was the one thing that I did “wrong” the first time, and then fixed, but it just seemed to be lacking something for the “feel” I was going for. Okay, I’ll stop being so “artsy” about it, and just bluntly say, I didn’t like it. So I added some texture to the photo, and I think it made a real difference. Here they are again before and afters just to show you a bit of how my mind works.

Which do you prefer, and why? Just out of curiosity. Maybe the first one actually is better and I’m just being weird. ;-) It is possible I’m sure.

Once again

I had too much fun with the Vintage photo thing this afternoon, so I decided to do another one. One of the steps in her tutorial was off and I didn’t find out till I was reading the comments on her post, so my first image was “wrong” ha ha, though I liked it anyway. Here’s the second try, and I’m thinking maybe I like the first one better?? Dunno. This photo was taking with the wrong white balance settings originally so that could have made a big difference too. Anyway, here it is BEFORE and AFTER editing. :-)

Vintage Photo Editing

So, I came across a tutorial from the i heart faces site about however many “easy” steps to make a photo look more “vintage.” I have to say it was a fun and learning experience for me. The trouble w/ most of these tutorials is that they are for Photoshop programs. The program I use is Pixelmator, and while most of the tools and such are all still there, they aren’t necessarily in the same places and so on. So I have to do a little investigating in my own program to actually do what they are doing in the tutorial. However, that’s a good thing, because it helps me learn my editing software a little bit better. But I still need your opinions. Do you think this photo looks “vintage?”

Vintage project

I’m going to include the original image as well so you can better judge. I have a hard time really knowing if my photos could actually be categorized in words like “dramatic” or “vintage” or “moody.” I mean, who knows? It’s somewhat subjective, but I’m sure there are still things about the image that need to somehow strike a chord that would say, “Hey, I really AM a vintage lookin’ image, doncha think?” ;-) Ha ha… time and practice will help, I know. So here’s the original. This was Myles looking up at his balloon while he was playing at his cousin’s b-day party.

So? What do you think?

Oh, and I realized I hadn’t linked to the tutorial. You can find it HERE.

And one more note, ha! I did add a gradient to my image that she didn’t mention in her tutorial, but I think this photo needed it.

Signs

Last week on several different occasions…. maybe it was only two, but it felt like more, I found tail-tell signs that Qade had been climbing up onto the changing table and “messing” with stuff. For example, one day both the little wall art quotes I have hanging there were down, set up nicely against the back of the table. The next time I came in during nap time because I heard some commotion and found the wipes container empty on the floor amidst a pile of crumpled up wipes! I had JUST refilled it, so this did not please me in the least! I informed him that he was NOT to get on the changing table any more, it was OFF LIMITS! And he proceeded to have to stuff all of those wipes back in the container. Trust me, they don’t fit as well that way. I’m still digging out crumpled up wipes when I change Myles. ;-) So the other day I was in there for something, and happened to glance up at the wall. THEN I laughed out loud. I figured that Qade had disobeyed me and been back on the table, but he didn’t get disciplined for it. I don’t know when it happened, but I do know that it did. Can you guess how??

I think that Qade is still at too young of an age to ‘remember’ his transgressions from a day or even an afternoon ago. Plus I just couldn’t see myself pointing out the fact that the “pictures” weren’t right and that’s how I knew he’d been up there. So I supposed he committed the perfect crime this time around. ;-)

I told you that destroying the closet has been the favorite pastime of both the lads recently. Well, yesterday since they couldn’t get into the closet, they invented a new one. Get into the rubbermades under the bed and strew all it’s contents all over the floor. The effect is about the same. Both in the way the room looks and Mommy’s reaction to it. Poor Myles realized that he is not exempt from correction when he has his share in the transgression. Qade got in trouble once, and was innocently (amazingly enough) playing in the living room the second time. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I went past their room to see Myles standing happily in the middle of a pile of clothing. What was he thinking?

I just went to get the lad up since I heard him in his room. Potty training, you know. Guess what I found??? ;-) An empty box of wipes, but not a wipe in sight! He had stuffed them all BEHIND the changing table this time. I’d comment on some people have a hard head and taking awhile to learn their lessons, but I think I fit that description too, so I’d better not. ;-) Have a great, wipe free day!

Bible books and such

Yesterday I was reading the story of Noah’s ark to Qade from my favorite Bible story book ever!! When it got to the part where God told Noah to build an ark, Qade said, clear as day, “What’s an ark?” Ha! I didn’t even think he was paying attention to the words because he was so busy asking “what’s that?” about every picture on the page! You really should check out this book though, it’s pretty awesome, and Stuart loves the illustrations. It strikes something in that graphic design mind of his. :-) I’ve seen it at B&N and Wal-Mart, but Amazon is always a sure thing.

While I’m on the subject of books you should also check this one out! It’s an ABC Bible memory book. A friend of mine recommended it and Qade will be getting it for his b-day. It goes through the alphabet twice and has a memory verse for each letter. Since I want Qade to really learn his letters and sounds this year AND start scripture memory, this book is perfect. This particular one is KJV, which personally I find the easiest to memorize. I did see a similar book, not exactly this one, in NKJV on Amazon. I’m really excited about getting started with Qade on this one. Myles will probably listen in too, he’s a pretty good learner. Myles can already count to three. :-) Anyway, check out this book from Alpha Omega Publishing.

Myles has turned into our little monkey lately. Ever since I found him perched on the shelf in the closet all he has wanted to do is climb on any and everything! The closet is off limits, but of course they still think it’s THE most fun place to play in the whole house. Needless to say that caused several encounters of the disciplinary kind. The last of which was last evening when we had company over and the lads “disappeared” only to be discovered in their closet with all of the clothes ever so nicely thrown on the floor. Hmmmm…. Fortunately I had ordered these “child proof” sliding door locks. It’s not a very sturdy contraption, but so far it seems to work because I’ve watched both of them unsuccessfully try to open it. I just want it to last long enough for them to forget that the closet was oh-so-fun. :-)

We’ve been working with Myles lately on this bad habit that he’s picked up. His first reaction to any instructions is a very emphatic “Uh-uh” in the negative sense. :-) We’re teaching him to say “Yes, Mommy” or “Sir” as the case may be, but those words aren’t really part of his vocab yet, so it’s an interesting teaching experience. We’re also trying to teach him when a negative response is appropriate to say “No, thank you” instead of “uh-uh.” He’s getting that one a little better. Only now he thinks that if there’s anything he doesn’t want from trying something at dinner to getting his diaper changed that “no thank you” is the magic way out. :-) Poor little lad, so many disappointments at such a young age. ;-)

On the pregnancy side of life, things are looking up. This morning I noticed that I didn’t feel like I HAD to eat something right away to keep from feeling sick. Coffee is starting to sound and taste good again. :-D Big plus!! And the evening ickies are slowly abating. It’s getting later and later so hopefully one time it’ll strike AFTER bed and I won’t even notice. ;-) OR go away entirely that’ll be fine with me! I have been feeling some tiny movements now and then, so that’s fun. There are days I wonder if I’ll get to the ‘fun’ part of this pregnancy, but mostly I’m just looking forward to it being over and bringing home our newest family member. :-)

Hope you all are having a swell Tuesday. The wind isn’t blowing in 60 mph gusts today, YET! So I think I’ll grab some jackets and take the wild animals outside where they belong. ;-) Toodles!

They Never Tell You

I did a post similar to THIS ONE some time ago, but reading this made me smile, and I’m sure it will for you too… if you have/have had lil ones. :-) I have to run and get my potty trainee to the bathroom, but take a minute and read the article, it’ll make your day happy. :-) Oh and if you want to read the post I wrote, it’s right HERE.

My Guinea Family

2010
04.05

I’ve been working on photos, so of course I have to do another blog post to share! :-D This weekend we had lots of the Noggle family here to surprise celebrate Great-grandpa’s, or Grandpa-Junior as Qade calls him, 80th birthday. We didn’t know till last minute if Tiffany and Aiden would be able to come, the weather up there is kind of cranky sometimes. However they made it down, much to the delight of Qade. Several days before he had been talking on his play phone. I asked him who he was talking to and he replied, “Aiden.” Then he said very clearly into the phone, “Hi, Aiden. Come see me.” Apparently Aiden got the message. :-D We were happy he came to see us, and that he brought his Mom too. ;-)

Anyway, Tiff and Aiden were so kind as to let me snap some pictures of them. I’m working on my portrait photography. Every time I do something like this though it really shakes my confidence in whether I can really do this. I’m going to attempt to get some “senior portrait” clients soon though so guess I need to take a big gulp of air (as Tom Ferrill used to say at camp) and just dive in. :-) A LOT of the pictures I took of these two were “duds” mostly because we were experimenting with lighting and the flashes and so on. Still I got a few nice ones, and a few not as nice ones, but some. I’m sure as I become more familiar with the equipment and the lighting concepts I’ll have more and more nice ones and fewer and fewer not-so-nice ones. At least that’s my hope.

So here are a few of the few nice ones. Just thought I’d share. :-D

I think this ended up being my all time favorite!

I like photos where not everyone is looking at the camera… maybe I’m just weird. This one is sweet though.

There is a blog HERE giving away a Nikon D40. I’m entering because I love Nikon and with trying to start up a photography business I could really use a good second camera. If you’d like to enter too visit the link. There’s quite a story behind this giveaway that will tug at your hearts. Just letting you know. :-)

Not me Poop edition

2010
04.05

Did I already have one of these editions?? Can’t remember but it rings a bell somewhere. Probably one of those things I’ve been trying to block from my memory. :-)

Yesterday, Easter, I did not intentionally keep my potty training lad in ‘unders’ while we went to church. Keep in mind it’s a 40 min drive to town. Imagine the mommy’s pride in her amazing child prodigy when he managed not only to stay dry the entire drive, but also through Children’s Church! This same child, however, did not wet his pants only moments from our own home. *sigh*

Dispite the set back I did not just quickly change him into another pair of unders and fresh pants before we rushed over to Great-Grandpa’s 80th b-day party. I didn’t think (honestly) about the fact that this same potty training lad hadn’t had a BM in over a day. This child didn’t have such a good time running around with his cousins and Auntie and grandparents that he didn’t tell Mommy he needed to potty. Neither did he tell me when he did have an accident. Fun is just too much fun to stop for something like wet pants. I did not spot him walking around like a duck and figure out he had “peep” on his pants. ;-) Oh, and of course I didn’t check to make sure it was JUST “peep” either. I did not walk him down the long hall and across a big room looking for an available bathroom unknowingly spreading little “nuggets” that were working their way down his pant legs all over the house. Even when he looked down and said “Uh-oh, poop!” it did not occur to me that the little brown smashed thing on the carpet was actually doo-doo. It didn’t take me all the way till I was helping him out of his pants and a bunch of little “pebbles” went rolling all over the floor for me to actually understand what happened. It also didn’t take me so long to get things taken care of in the bathroom that by the time I came out to deal with the rest of the mess someone else had unknowingly picked up most of the pieces WITH THEIR BARE HANDS thinking it was candy that kids had dropped from the egg hunt. Oh dear! Gross!

Our potty trainee hasn’t been drinking as much as “normal” because of his training regimen, but I think I’ll be giving him more after this. The “gravel” that ended up everywhere convinced me that he could use more liquid. Today he is getting little sips of water whenever he asks for it. We’ll see how it goes.

Oh and one more. My lads did NOT go to bed late last night and then get up SUPER early this morning so that they were grouchy and irritable beyond belief by 9AM. Not my boys!! ;-)

The photo is just for your amusement. This was a “post incident” shot of the cousins having a grand time at Great Grandma’s doll table. :-)
