My Loves

2010
04.30

The other day I was getting Qade ready for bed and it was one of those times where I just found myself laughing hysterically over stuff that really wasn’t funny… happens sometimes. ;-) Anyway, Qade couldn’t figure out what was funny and kept asking me, “What’s-a matter for you?” Which would of course make me laugh even more. Sometimes I think he must be Italian deep down or something by the way he puts sentences together. :-)

Myles has been my snuggle bug lately. Almost to the point of being too much, if that’s possible. :-) I’m actually eating it up though because I know it won’t last. I don’t know why he’s been so clingy but many many times a day now he’ll just want “up” in my lap and he nuzzle down and pop in his thumb and we’ll just sit together, or sometimes read a book. A friend of mine told me that when she was expecting her 3rd the other two suddenly wanted more snuggles as well. I can’t imagine that Myles has a concept that something is changing, but I’ll take the extra cuddle time anyway. ;-) Qade does frequently talk about the “baby in your tummy” to me, and since he went to the last OB visit with me and heard the baby he sometimes asks, “Does your baby feel better, Mommy?” I think he figured since the baby had to see the doctor it must not have felt good. :-) Cute what their little minds can come up with.

Qade has been mr. thankful recently. Some of his common ones are “Take-you for my wunch (lunch) Mommy” and “Take you for my happy birday, Mommy!” Awww, just melts my heart! One that I NEVER expected to hear popped out a couple of days ago, “Take you for my nap, Mommy!” WOW!!! Where did that come from? Pretty sure I have to practically wrestle him to bed every day for naps…. maybe not physically, but mentally for sure!

Because this week has been a little “off” and our schedules thrown out of whack the lads have had a couple really grumpy mornings. It’s amazing to me how affected they can be by slight changes like that. Not that we have the same ridged schedule every day, but things progress in a usual way in our house. When that gets interrupted more than once, like for church on Sunday, then they start to go a little bonkers. Right now Qade is playing quietly in his room and Myles is occupying himself in the living room. We needed some separate play space today for sure.

Anyway, still brewing that post. I actually think it’s done I just need to write it out. I’ve been thinking about some stuff lately and how things can change quickly on ya. It’s interesting when we watch God work because in our own “perfect timing” sometimes it feels like we wait FOREVER for God to move and then when he suddenly does things seem to happen in a whirl wind, and you come out the other side wondering what in the world happened. :-) I’m not saying that things are happening in a whirl wind for us right now, it’s just a general observation. Still things ARE happening, and I’m thinking about some possibilities for after summer. I’ll keep y’all posted as things progress, no worries. Just pray for God’s will and his timing to be perfect for us. Thanks!

Night-night, Moon

Last night I saw a really cool full moon hanging in the sky when I went to take the stinky diapers out to the trash. Despite the fact that the wind was blowing like a gale I had to grab my camera and attempt to catch it. This was the best photo and it’s still blurry, but I was freeeeeeezing by this point and wanted to dash inside. So this is it, our goodnight moon!

Yellow Moon

It’s been an interesting week here. Busier than usual, but that’s okay. Abnormal in a few ways too. This afternoon/evening I looked out the window to see snow flakes falling from the sky?? Will Winter never die!! Good grief! I feel like we’ve been transported to Narnia. ;-) Alright, that’s a little extreme, but still. I’m ready for it to be nice and stay nice. Shouldn’t grumble about the weather though.

I may have gotten my first photography customer (as in someone who pays) this evening!! She has to call back and actually schedule a time for the shoot though, so it might fall through. It’s encouraging though. Stuart is my PR person at the high school and that helps! :-)

Myles just gave me his good night kiss. Only he doesn’t actually kiss, he says “mmmmaaaaaahhh” and that’s his kiss. ;-) Cute!

Battled with Qade over potty issues today. Arg! That wasn’t fun for either of us, but tomorrow is a new day. ;-)

Kind of random post tonight, but my mind can’t seem to settle on any one thing. I would like to ask you all to pray for our friends who lost their baby today. The Carr family could use prayers, I know. She was probably less than 2 weeks behind me in her pregnancy, and I just can’t imagine how they must be feeling right now. I know they’d appreciate extra prayer through this time. Thanks!

Well, I’m done frying my brain on the computer for now. Have a good night’s sleep tonight, and say nigh-night to the moon if you happen to see her. :-)

A friend of mine linked to this blog on HER blog, and it’s a photo sharing blog/contest. None of these “contests” win anything but the accolade of being “picked.” Which hasn’t happened yet, but I keep hoping!! Besides it’s lots of fun and I get inspiration by looking at other’s photos. The theme for this particular Tuesday is “water.” It’s not something we see here in AZ too much actually! But I thought the droplets that I shot captured perfectly in the little leaves after rain was pretty cool! We might not have vast ocean front property, or deep delving lakes, but Arizona gets it’s water in little droplets and is thankful for each one! :-) You can VOTE for my photo or any of the other photos on the site that strike your fancy if you click on the button at the bottom. Happy Tuesday!

This is a blog hop… don’t really know what that means exactly except that it links together all us photo linkers….. or something. :-) You can link to it to if you’d like to enter a “water” themed photo.

Me, me, me, me

Don’t wanna read about me? Well you came to the wrong place! :-) I told a friend recently that I was planning a blog post about my “new” resolutions since the “New Year’s” ones didn’t seem to stick so well. Something about those 15 weeks of morning sickness had SOMETHING to do with it I’m sure. ;-) But I can no longer use that as an excuse…. most of the time.

This morning I was going to get up early to have a few moments peace to gather my scattered self together before the lads got up raring to go. However the snooze button, and eventually the OFF button were my downfall. If only they invented alarm clocks with out them. I know, I know, they probably have, but I’m NOT getting rid of my nature sounds alarm because I’m MUCH more grumpy when an annoying beep or ring pulls me out of slumber land. So I’ll have to start tomorrow with that resolve.

However a quick trip on the scale this morning convinced me that I need to be much more proactive about NOT turning into a mini-Jaba during this pregnancy. I know the weight will come off after baby, but I also know that the more there is the harder I have to work and the LONGER it takes. I don’t want to gain too much. I was pretty active when I was pregnant w/ Myles and that REALLY helped weight wise. This time I’ve been way too sluggish and am consequently turning into a slug way too fast! ;-) So today I gathered the lads up in their spiffy double stroller and we all went for a walk. :-) Qade actually did request to get down and walk so I let him once we were close to being back. It felt good! I still loathe that stupid sandy hill that we have to walk up right off the bat, but I’m sure I need the extra resistance anyway. I have to make up for lost time. ;-) I’m also planning to start INSANITY again. Now before any of you (Mom) have a heart attack (Mom) and call me up telling me not to be crazy (MOM!!) I’m only going to do the “cardio recovery” work out which is slow yoga-like muscle building moves and LOTS of stretching, which my poor poor hips could really use. So there you go, no worries! (Mom. Hee hee) I’ve had issues w/ my left hip ever since I had Qade, and I found in doing the INSANITY program that the stretches really made it feel good. Here’s hoping. Well that’s some of my physical health resolves for now.

As far as mental/emotional health I’m working on incorporating some ME ME ME time into more of my days. With 2 little monkeys, and I do mean monkeys! You should have seen them playing on the HUGE satellite dish outside today. Monkey is the only word to describe it… or maybe spiderman! Anyway, keeping up and taking care and bringing up two monkeys takes a LOT of mental/emotional/physical energy. But I’ve discovered that all of those reserves can get quickly drained if I don’t take some time for me. That’s why I’m sitting here with my head wrapped in plastic wrap and a towel. ;-) An awesome friend of mine has been posting some “spa moments” on her blog and one of them was a hot oil treatment for hair. My hair has been thirsting for some extra attention for quite some time now. I’m sure it’s enjoying this. So I have olive oil on my head and will shortly be using her vinegar rinse for some extra shine! Can’t wait to see how it turns out! Anyway, I digress. Part of why I’m trying to change some of these things coincides with my “brewing” blog, which I believe is nearly done percolating. ;-) So I don’t want to steal my own thunder, but that blog is mostly about my kids, and these things are mostly about how I need to change things for ME. :-) See, all about me again!
So the getting up early part is for my emotional/spiritual health. I have found it so difficult to just steal a few minutes of quiet during the day for some Bible reading and prayer unless I get up before the kidos. Yet it’s SO vital. I have to work harder to make that a priority. A mommy who isn’t “keeping up” with her spiritual growth isn’t going to be able to keep up with training her children the right way. The physical part is just because I don’t want my energy to be sapped by the fact that I couldn’t exercise self-control and discipline in my own life. I don’t want to be feeling sluggish and tired because of my weight or fitness level when I’m trying to “keep up” with my kids. I want to be able to play with them and do things. What I don’t want is for me to look back on my children’s formative years with feelings of regret because I wasn’t fit enough or was constantly battling my weight. So the battle starts now, and then it won’t be such a big deal later. “The journey of a thousand pounds, oops I mean miles ;-) begins with one step!” Then the ‘spa for me’ moments are just to help me remember that I can be beautiful every day! I don’t have to just be a ‘frumpy’ mom because I stay at home with the little ones and sometimes wear snot on my shirt as an accessory. :-) Right now where we live and where we are in life makes it really easy for me to “not care.” I very rarely leave the house during the week, so it seems kinda pointless to get all “gussied up.” Still, I want to be pretty for my hubby, and set a good example for my lads. Also I’m working on getting out more as well. It’s not really possible for me to go “to town” 45 min away very much, but I am setting up play dates with a young mom here in town, and that helps a lot!! Just having that one thing to look forward to each week makes a HUGE difference.
So anyway, I’m off to wash the goo out of my hair and get prettified. Here are the before and after pics. Do you think the treatment made a difference?? Toodles!

You can see how “thirsty” my hair looks.
Hair

Had to put this one it with my handy dandy plastic wrap shower cap! Can’t believe I have the guts to post this!
DSC_3294

And after. Granted my hair was a tad damp, but more than that, not all of the oil rinsed out so I’ll have to work harder at it next wash. :-) Still, I think it’s much happier after a needed thirst quencher!
DSC_3295

P.S. I didn’t link to my friend’s blog w/ the oil instructions because her blog is not open to the public, but if you’re interested let me know and I’ll e-mail you the steps. She does a fantastic job of explaining everything, though for my purposes she should have made a “for dummies” version. I heated up the oil and like a fool I “tested” the temperature by sticking my finger in it!!! Ya know what happens to chicken when you drop it in hot oil? Well, that happens to fingers too!! Owie!! Oh, and one other note, vinegar doesn’t feel good in your eyes! ;-)

This week i heart faces is doing a smiles theme. I thought of this picture right away!! I was taking senior snaps of my hubby’s cousin and just happened to snag this shot. I just loved the way her whole face lit up when she smiled! Just beautiful!

Three Years Old

2010
04.24

Well, the party’s over, the presents have been opened and in some cases destroyed, :-) the cake had been devoured along with the yummy steak and fixin’s, guests have departed, and suddenly I feel like bursting into tears???? What’s that all about? Ha! Must just be the after party let down. Plus now I have a few moments to really think about how quickly my little Monkey is growing up! Everyone says it goes fast. Some days it doesn’t seem like it, but looking back it always does. I nearly can’t believe that it was 3 years ago that we brought home our lil baby boy to a half-packed apartment in Greenville. So much has happened since then, and he is so much of a big boy now. Makes me realize how fast the next few years are going to go. There’s a line in the movie “Hook” that pops into my mind frequently when the mom is talking to the dad about their kids, and she says, “We only have a few short years where they’re the ones who want us around. After that you’re going to be running after them for a bit of attention.” Makes me want to make the most of all the moments in those “few short years.”
My camera was behaving very badly so many of the shots I took were blurry and that’s aggravating. *sigh* I need to learn to plan better… or just do the party at Chuck e Cheese. ;-) Maybe next year! :-) Anyway, I was disappointed in the pictures, but I’ll post a few so you can see how much fun we had. Cause it really was fun. Now that Qade kind of “gets” what’s going on, it adds a whole new dimension to the great times!

I like for the lads to have a birthday balloon, and this year I totally forgot! Thankfully Stu’s mom went to town early this morning and found this amazing “Cars” balloon! So cool!
DSC_3159

This shot is blurry and it upsets me, but I’m keeping it anyhow!! This was the look on Qade’s face when everyone was singing “Happy Birthday” to him. He loves that song!! :-)
DSC_3173

Delving in! He’s a pretty good gift opener by now.
DSC_3185

Thought this was too cute, him “reading” his card!
DSC_3199

His “big gift” the new bike!! We’re probably the most excited about it. After nap we all get to go outside for it’s first trip!

Myles trying out the bike. He was pretty enamored with it actually.
DSC_3236

Candles on his cake! Qade was very excited about this part and has been telling me for days that he was going to “blow candles” on his birthday cake. He got them all with one little puff too. :-)

Eating with a fork. No more stuffing cake in the face…. in fact…..

He asked for a napkin for his hands! Ha ha ha!!

This afternoon I decided to do a “shoot” with the lads. I’d like to get a good picture of them together, but I’ll have to have reinforcements!! This is how it goes… Mommy suggests we go take some pictures, lads get all hyper and excited because they actually are invited into the “forbidden” room, they flop on the backdrops and hold still for exactly no seconds and I take a BUNCH of blurry pictures. :-) Then I manage to get one to hold still while the other spins in circles somewhere in the room. Eventually I come out with some photos like these. :-)

This is my 2 for only one more day, big boy! Buford made a guest appearance today, how fun.

DSC_3028

And Myles would absolutely NOT be still for the world! In fact I don’t think he even sat down the whole time. Here’s our Monkey #2!

DSC_3039

Well, guess he kinda sat down, but believe me he did NOT stop moving! :-) Love how the Cheeto stains match his shorts! ;-)

DSC_3040

And would you believe this was the only shot I got (all of) both of them in??? How could that be possible?

DSC_3021

My Bro and his wife and daughter are coming over tomorrow. Perhaps they will let me snag some shots of them as well. Right now I’m just trying to shoot as much as possible, get good and comfy with my camera settings and keep working on the lighting issues. Have a swell night! Remember tomorrow is LIME GREEN THURSDAY!!! Wear something limey for me!

Senior Portraits

2010
04.21

So last week I got to take some shots of Stuart’s cousin, Cheyenne, for her senior portraits. I’m slowly working my way into this thing. I know that it will get “easier” and better with time. At this point though, I sill lack inner confidence, though I hope that I project a confident enough image while actually shooting. I know that I need to act confident in any given situation if I ever hope to “feel” confident as well. I wasn’t thrilled with a LOT of the photos that I took. They came a little later than I was expecting and some of the light I had been counting on was gone when I ‘needed’ it. So I learned a LOT more about how much more I need to learn about lighting, especially indoors! :-) It’s good! We had fun, and I think ended up with some nice shots. I still have some “sifting” to do through them, but here are a few for your viewing entertainment! Feel free to leave constructive/critical comments.

I wish now that I had taken more pics here, but the bulls in the pen made me a little nervous. ;-)

I once read an article about what a great backdrop a North facing garage door made…. and ours happens to be one, what do ya know?

Shearing of the lads

2010
04.20

Sorry to have neglected y’all for SO long. I’ve got a post “brewing” but I’m not quite ready to write it yet, and unfortunately it had been effectively blocking all other blogish thoughts. ;-) I know, I’m weird.

Anyway, it has been busy too so I’ll let that and my project sons be my excuses. :-) Ha ha! Here they are… look so innocent don’t they?

Hair

Don’t be fooled! My two older children have been doozies in the behavior realm lately! It’s all part of that brewing post that’ll maybe be done steeping sometime soon. No worries, you’ll get the full scoop, probably more than you’d like, before long. I would just like to take this moment to say that my youngest child (still of unknown gender and thanks to a doc who is NOT as impatient as I am, will remain so for more than another month! What in the world!!!!) has been on it’s best behavior! :-)

However, between the doozies we’ve been doing okay. We’ve had lots of fun moments outside where life becomes easier for all involved, and where this Mommy is SO happy for the sunshine and warmer weather!!!! The potty training is still going… and going…. and going… but no poop yet. :-( If you have any fool-proof suggestions for how to get the little stinkers to actually “stink” while on the pot, shoot em my way! Qade will talk about it. He’s super excited that once he does finally “go” he get’s a toy, and he tells me that fact frequently. I make him clean up his own messes when he goes in his unders, and he’ll agree quite loudly with me that it’s “gross” and “disgusting” (even though I’m pretty sure he only says the last word because he thinks it sounds cool), but it doesn’t seem to sink in that he could do something else about it. *sigh* Well for now we’re just going to keep talking about where it really goes, and hoping that sometime it’ll happen. I’d really rather not resort to sitting in the bathroom w/ him on the pot for however long it takes listening to him whine the whole time. So, here’s hoping…

Today marked the day when I finally decided that the mops HAD to be dealt with. I actually kind of like my lad’s hair a little mopish and longer. I think it’s cute. But after they’re cut I think they’re so stinkin’ cute too!! I bought some clippers at good ol’ Wally-World a couple weeks ago hoping that it would help me do a better job. This one comes with color coded combs that help you know how long/short you’re about to cut it. :-) I have to say that it really did help. I managed to get them shorn and it wasn’t so bad. :-) Now it would have been better had they not been squirming all over and fussing about the hair flying all over their suckers, but I’ll take what I can get. The end results aren’t TOO bad anyway.

Monkey Shearing

They seem happy enough although they were still covered in hair! Ha!! Don’t worry, right after this shot they both got plunked into the tub suckers and all. :-) Hey, I liked the way it all turned out. If you’re going to get all sticky from a sucker and then hairy from a hair cut, you might as well get unsticky and unhairy while you have fun splashing in the tub and finishing up the sticky treat as well. :-) I think I’ll have them eat popsicles in the tub next time too!

So this was supposed to be Stuart’s turn to chop the mops but he’s been pretty swamped lately with stuff to do so I took it upon me to make one less thing on his to-do list. Plus this week is Qade’s 3rd birthday!! So we’ll be having lots of family and fun around here. Wanted the lads to be presentable instead of shaggy… of course it was a gamble either way with my hair cutting skilz! ;-) I have to say though that after doing just the 2 of them, my back was killing me!!! I have a new and deeper respect for those people who stand on their feet all day and do this. Course I wouldn’t mind getting paid. I did all the work and still had to dish out suckers! Ha ha!

That’s it, folks…. all for now. I’ll try not to be so negligent about blogging and I promise to post some b-day pictures too! Take care!

Never would have believed

2010
04.09

That one day I’d walk into my boys room to find my youngest actually LICKING lotion off the carpet where his big brother obligingly spread it.

That my potty trainee toddler would come waddling into the living room with a turd IN HIS HAND saying, “I found the poop!” Oh my, I certainly hope there are no more to find.

That I would find the “missing poop” from the last statement while trying to help clean up the lotion from the first statement.

That I would ever hear a huge splashing noise like the sound of a cup being spilled followed by the loud words, “Uh-oh, I peep!”

Or that I would be oh-so-thankful that it happened in the kitchen rather than anywhere with carpet. I just don’t think I could handle that after the above poop incident.

That I would find myself telling my son, “Go in the kitchen and clean up your pee-pee.”

That I would find both boys STANDING on top of the changing table in their room knocking their heads against the wall to create a huge commotion.

The bedroom door is now “off limits” to be closed.

Just thought I’d share. :-)
