Last week my favorite niece in the whole wide world turned one! :-) We all got to go to her b-day party which was oodles of fun, fun, fun. Plus food and yummy cupcakes so who wouldn’t want to be there, huh? ;-) Anyway, I took my handy dandy camera with my new 50mm lens and had fun snapping away. Thought I’d post a few of the pics for the fam. The rest of you are welcome to look as well. Ha!! There are plenty more pics where these came from, but I figure I got some of the highlights here! Enjoy!

The birthday girl! I just love her little dress!

Helen was much more “dainty” about eating her cake than my lads ever were. :-) Guess it’s a girl thing.

Her mom actually put the frosting on her nose because she needed some color. ;-) Ha ha ha!

Birthday Girl

Cousins crash! They all love to play with these push toys the the grandparents have for them. This building had wide open spaces too which made it even more fun!

What’s a birthday w/o balloons? Qade popped one and got upset. Myles popped one and acted like absolutely nothing had happened. Weird! Helen didn’t pop any.

Opening gifts was a grand time. I think she would rather have been down to play, but I love how intense she is on this package. I mean look at the Michael Jordan concentration going on there!

Playing UNDER the table has to be the most exciting thing ever!

Drama, drama, drama!

This week on i heart faces it’s “Dramatic” Black and White photos! So I wracked my brain trying to figure out what really makes a photo dramatic or “moody.” I mean, I know one when I see it because it strikes ME that way, but actually making it happen in one of my photos was a challenge! BUT that’s what I like about i heart faces! They keep me thinking and their challenges really are challenges! I learn something new every time I enter a photo! So this week here is my very own interpretation of a dramatic black and white photo. Hope you enjoy it!! I also realized that I was MIA in the blog world this week because my LAST post was last Monday’s i heart faces photo. Oh well, I’ll try to catch up this week. Don’t forget to check out some other B&W photos by clicking the button at the bottom. Ta ta!

They’re delving into ‘angles’ at i heart faces this week. I took this shot of Qade last week while we were burning off some energy outside. His dirty face and little hooded head just make this shot even funnier! I was sitting on the steps when I heard his little voice say, “Wook at me!” and he was on the retaining wall next to me. I leaned back, got dirt in my hair, but thought this was a pretty unique angle. I do try to get different perspectives when I’m snapping away, but this “bug’s eye view” was unusual and fun!

Giant!

You can check out more angle ideas by clicking on the button. I enjoy perusing other entries. It gives me good ideas and motivates me to improve as well. Toodles!

Another day…

My Faves

Here are two of my favorite faces of all time. Even when they are misbehavin’. :-)

Today was another hard day, and I felt pretty lousy on top of it, so of course that didn’t help. However, we made it through to bed time… at least one is down, and the other will be shortly. :-D I have to confess that was my goal today. I kept looking at the clock thinking only such-n-such hours till bed time! Somewhere between putting back ALL the clothes that Qade had pulled out of the closet and clothes bins, and pulling apart the quarreling siblings for the 16th time, all I could think of was the few precious moments of peace after they were tucked into bed! Yep, I do have those days. Here’s hoping to a better tomorrow though. And looking at those sweet faces it’s easy to think that there will be better tomorrows. :-D

It mostly boils down to…

03.19

…Me! After writing all those posts about how it’s not about being the perfect parent and it’s not up to us how our kids turn out, I’ll go ahead and take the blame this time. Don’t worry, it’s not a mommy-guilt session, and perhaps blame is the wrong term. I need to take responsibility. Yes, that’s more like it.

We’ve been having a hard time with our two dear, darling, adorable little lads recently. This week has been hard all along, but I must say that yesterday was perhaps the worst day I’ve had with the boys together yet. That’s saying a lot, huh? It was so though. Those boys must have been conspiring together in those early hours when they were awake before Mommy was ready to get them up, because it started just as soon as I opened the door to the lions den their room. ;-) Those boys, both of them, REFUSED outright to listen to my words yesterday. They would only give the pretense of obedience when I was already moving toward them with consequences. On top of which every single thing I asked or told them was met with whining, fussing, outright fit-throwing. Wow! Before the clock had reached 11am I was already at my wit’s end!! Nap time was a reprieve, but even that didn’t dampen their rebel spirits. At least in the evening I had Stuart to back me up. It was just an all around terrible, horrible, no good, VERY bad day! (hope you can appreciate the book reference, I love that story!)

Anyway, after moping, feeling sorry for myself, and whining about it a bit, I emerged from my cloud of frustration to a new realization. It was me, not them that needed some correction. Check that… they need correction too, but I need it first! ;-) See, I’ve been feeling pretty lousy with this pregnancy. Not whining, just telling. Ha ha! I don’t remember feeling quite this “bad” with the boys. Could just be bad memory, but honestly it has seemed tougher. Plus it hasn’t “eased” as I expected it to. Tomorrow is week 14 and I’m still waking up nauseous and the very thought of dinner nearly makes me gag. So that’s a bummer, because I was kind of counting on the energy boost and better feelings of the second trimester to help out a bit around here. Ha! All of that to say that I have not been a very consistent disciplinarian over the past couple of months. Shame on me! Consistency is difficult in the easiest of times, never mind when things are less than easy. But that’s no excuse. It IS my responsibility to teach these lads how to behave and why, and also be willing to follow through with consequences if need be.

So there you have it. I really do feel like I hit the nail on the head. I realize I’ve not been fulfilling my responsibility to these boys as their Mom. Today we turned over a new leaf. ;-) Fun, fun, fun!! Actually we started turning it over last night. I made the decision that Qade will no longer take his sippy cup to bed with him. Lord willing we will begin potty training in about a week, and he doesn’t need the extra fluid and besides I’ve realized it’s just a security thing with him. The last 3 nights in a row I got pulled out of bed by the lad’s frantic wails because he couldn’t find his cup! One night it was sitting right next to him in his bed… you can bet that did NOT make a happy Mama! So before bed last night I explained that he is a big boy now and big boys don’t take cups to bed. I went through the list of just about everyone he knows from Grandparents down to his camp-buddy Benjamin and how THEY don’t take cups to bed and he didn’t need one either. He thought differently, and several times I felt like caving in, but I’m glad I didn’t. Today he had no cup at nap and it wasn’t AS tragic. ;-)

That was the start. Today I purged toys. I’ve realized that sometimes the level of misbehavior is in direct proportion to the amount of “stuff” surrounding the kids. :-) Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying they shouldn’t have stuff, but I notice that when they have a lot of toys out they really get overwhelmed and don’t know what to do. So instead of playing creatively they turn destructive and try to see how big of a mess they can make with all of the stuff! Ugh! Tired of dealing with stuff spread out EVERYWHERE and the ensuing whining/fit-throwing when I insist that they clean up their own mess, I decided to get rid of much of the problem. I keep a couple rubbermade tubs with toys to swap out anyway, and today seem the perfect day to add a few things to the tubs. Several things that went INTO the tubs were Potato Head and all (I hope) of his appendages, the block train that has never yet been reassembled into a train after it left the box at Christmas, the magnetic letters and letter reader from the fridge. I was so pleased that I actually found ALL of the alphabet in one go!! I simplified a few more things and brought out a couple of toys (in one piece) that they haven’t seen for awhile. Then after nap I plan on locating most of it into their room. I’d prefer them to play with “stuff” there than spread it out all over the house. We’ll see how it goes.

On top of that Mommy has had to lay down the law and be quite firm today. That’s no fun. It’s really the stinky part of parenting when you have to be the Nazi and it seems like you never get to relax and just have fun with your kids. However, I really didn’t want that, so I took the little non-Nazi moments to squeeze in some extra tummy tickles and story reading, and just rolling on the floor together, because who knew how much fun THAT could be? :-D I think we’re on the right track for making things ultimately better. Next week is Stuart’s spring break and I’m SOOOO thankful that he’ll be home and able to help me cope with the constant consistency with the boys.

Till next time…..

All Bundled Up!

This week i heart faces is a tribute to snow and all the bundling that goes along with it. Ugh! :-) I’m ready for spring, but after yesterday’s surprise snow fall maybe they know something we don’t. Ha ha! I went back and looked at this winter’s bundled up shots, because it’s SO fun to snap the lads while they’re walking around like little marshmallow men! I had a hard time choosing, as is usual, but decided on this one because I think the big-wheel “bike” in the snow and the utter glee on Qade’s face were too fun!

More Snuggles Please

2010
03.12

My boys have never been BIG cuddlers unless they’re sick. But recently I’ve been getting some good snuggle times even from the well lads!! I love it! Qade has been getting up early so he’s usually pretty tired by lunch time. Occasionally he’ll just ask me to “Sit with me” and we’ll pile into a chair, he’ll pop in his thumb, I’ll do the rocking and it’s oh so fun! :-) He also wakes up from nap some days not really ready for much interaction, especially the little brother kind, and this often prompts another of our sitting sessions.

Myles is my attention hog! He will have a hard time once baby #3 arrives and Mommy can no longer give him all the attention he wants. Often though it’s only when someone else might be having some attention that he begins to feel deprived and starts to demand some for himself. ;-) But he has been under the weather lately and sometimes just feels pretty sad. So we’ll snuggle up in the chair just me and him and a good board book, and like magic he’ll be chipper and happy with just a few minutes of snuggle therapy! :-) Works like that for me too!

Well, the past 2 evenings I’ve been feeling gross again. Blah! The last week the nausea was really starting to let up and I was encouraged that the end of the tunnel was near. However, it’s back! Ugh! I’m quickly approaching that “magical” 13 wk mark and hope that it really does do it’s magic! I’ve been looking forward to it for the past oh, 10 weeks!! :-)

Today was a beautiful day!! We had the sunshine, the warmer temps, and NO wind! This afternoon we played outside and helped Daddy clean up some stuff around the house. The lads are thoroughly dirty, but loving it! :-) Tonight Stu is fixing steak for dinner!! Sounds good to me even with the lousy tummy! So hope y’all have a great weekend! We’re having company so the lads can get spoiled by their grandparents again. Can’t get enough of that after all! Ta ta!

My littlest Love

So Myles was up and attem this afternoon while Qade was napping. We made the spare room bed together, then messed it up playing on top! Then I said, “Hey lets take some pictures!” Little buddy hopped up, and made a bee-line for the backdrop and plopped down ready for his photo shoot!! He even said CHEEEEEESE!! While I was snapping away!! What a cutie! Even though he doesn’t feel good today we still got some fun shots. Maybe BECAUSE he doesn’t feel good he slowed down long enough for me to snap some! :-) Anyway, I decided to share some with you. Lucky friends!! :-D

I’ll start with my favorite!! FEET!!! Love pictures of feet! (Well, little feet anyway!)

I Heart Feet!!

This was the first one I took after he flopped on the backdrop! My kiddos are going to be little cheeses I can tell!

True story: Myles ran around the house the other day with this bucket completely over his head!! He of course crashed, but it was hysterical to watch!

Lime green without the lime

2010
03.11

I don’t have any “wintery” limey-shirts. Guess the little gnomes who make the clothes don’t think it’s a winter color. So alak, I’m just celebrating in spirit today. I’ve had a hard time in the past finding a good limey maternity shirt as well… something WILL have to be done about that, because I simply cannot be at summer camp and not able to participate in Lime-Green Thursday! ;-)

Forget what I said about Myles having the RSV vaccine. I got it confused with something else. However, the doc doesn’t think it’s RSV. We did finally make it through the cold and snow yesterday to the doctor’s office. Strangely enough the doc who saw Myles noticed his Dad’s name on the chart and said, “I think your dad was one of my first patience way back when I first came here!” Wow! good memory, Doc! Poor little boy does not like going to doctors even when he isn’t going to get shots… guess he doesn’t know that. Though I can’t blame him, I don’t like strangers poking around on me either! He weighed in at 23lbs 4 oz. Had to have his oxygen levels checked and was NOT thrilled with the little thing on his big toe! Ha! :-) They listened to his lungs and said they sound good. Doc said he sounded “croupy” and prescribed a one dose steroid something, and also a 5 day course of anti-biotics because one of his ears looked suspicious. The nurse came in after to give him his one dose, and Myles immediately clamped his lips shut like a vice. Uh-uh, nothing doing. So I politely asked the nurse if I could give it to him and, surprisingly, she said sure. Sure enough as soon as the syringe was in my hand he opened right up. I gave it too him in halves so he wouldn’t spit it out, but after the first part he thought it tasted pretty nasty and wasn’t as willing the second time around. Mom’s are good at it though. :-) Down it went! Whew, and we were out-a there! I don’t care for doctor’s offices much more than the lads to be honest.

Anyway, after all of that it was off to the pharmacy and a 20 min wait for the prescription. Fortunately for US one of the pharmacists came out the side door while we were sitting there waiting and Myles gave her one of his most charming grins. She laughed out loud and said, “hello, grandson!!” Then she asked what we were waiting for and went back and zipped it right through! Awwww, so sweet! Helped restore my opinion of mankind after trying to navigate their awful parking lot!! ;-)

So once we were all packed up and ready to finally turn our nose toward home, I made a slight detour to treat myself to some fried zucchini from Carl’s Jr. After all, if I could survive Wal-Mart (including standing in the “Customer Service” line for a return) AND the doctor’s office, AND the Pharmacy with a sick kido in tow, I felt I deserved it. ;-) And it was delish too! Someday I’m going to learn to make it myself!

Well, so we’re back at home, and all is well. Unfortunately due to the stressful effects of a long day yesterday including all of the above mentioned, I ended up with yet another migraine. I thought it was pretty well under control till all of a sudden it packed a wallop! So I took myself off to bed early and struggled to sleep for a LONG time. I got up this morning feeling somewhat better, though I can tell it’s still “lurking” in the shadows, so I’m guzzling water and trying my best to take it as easy as possible.

Myles is coughing MORE today, but I think it’s actually a good thing. I just hate to hear him cough, and it really wears him out, hence the morning nap he is taking, but it seems to be more productive now. Before it all seemed so congested and tight when he’d cough. It was painful to listen to. Just pray for my littlest lad to get well. Seems he’s had more than his fair share of colds and illness this winter season.

Hope y’all are having a swell day, and if YOU own any wintery limey themed clothes, or if your lucky enough to NOT have snow on the ground again, and can wear your springy limey stuff, then do so for me, okay? ;-)

It’s only Tuesday??

For real? This week has already seemed incredibly long!! Must be because I went to bed with a migraine last night. :-( Boo-hoo! Pregnancy certainly makes headaches more frequent for me. Harder to deal with too because I can’t take the “normal” stuff for it. *sigh* Oh well, I woke up without the nasty uncomfy headache this morning so that’s good!!

My poor lil Myles isn’t feeling tip-top today. He came home from our weekend away with this “seal-like” barking cough. :-( Poor lad! His little voice is horse and he’s congested. He doesn’t seem to mind too much, but the cough just sounds awful! I called his doc’s office this morning, but they were totally booked, of course. The nurse was nice enough to tell me that there have been some upper respiratory viruses, and RSV going around. Oh, well that’s encouraging to a mom who can’t bring her baby in! Good grief! Myles did have the RSV vaccine so I’m not really worried, but if he’s not doing better tomorrow I’ll call again to see if I can bring him in. Just in case. :-)

I snapped a shot of some really great stuff the other day when we were heading to Stu’s parents. :-) Starbucks is our “treat” when we’re on the road. I thought you NEEDED to see this picture, and don’t worry, if it makes you drool and you simply have to rush out of your house to the nearest S’bucks, they aren’t paying me for advertising. :-D

Hit the spot!

Well, I was a little at a loss for dinner ideas, but one just struck me! Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup!!! The wind has picked up and is blowing in very gray, gloomy clouds, so I think it’ll just do the trick! Hope you all are having a faster week than me. Toodles!
