At the end of the day…

2010
02.12

…. when every last shred of patience has left me. When there is a sink full of dirty dishes. When there are crumbs on the floor from the meals of the day. When there is a dryer full of clothes to fold. When two little boys have spent the majority of the last half hour crying. When I haven’t had a shower. When my stomach hurts. When I wonder how I will EVER cope once “homeschooling” starts as I can’t seem to get on top of things NOW! When it’s just been “one of those days” at least for the last few hours (they’re what count, right?) It’s nice to have a little boy who though he was acting like a hoodlum only minutes before, will see you lie on the couch and come give you a kiss and “Sing Sunshine” to you. :-) It went like this “You are sunshine, you are sunshine, I love you, sunshine away.” Then he proceeded to hum a verse for me too. ;-) I usually sing it twice to him and then hum through once as he is settling in for the night. So sweet! Then he walked into the dining room, saw the yet uncleaned up table and came back to say, “Thank you lunch, Mommy.” Heart meltage right there! :-D Ahhhh… guess the day hasn’t been so bad after all.

Of course… there’s still bed time. (dum-de-dum-dum!) ;-)

So’s ya know

If you want to read the article I was referring to in the last post the words “this article” in the first sentence are a link. I don’t know why they aren’t showing up highlighted, but I honestly did put it in there. :-) Night!

Interesting Thoughts

I read this article today and it got me thinking. Again. :-) Because these thoughts have passed through my soggy head before. I’ve been “in ministry” my whole life basically and have watched this “expectation” thing happen over and over again. I’ve seen it in churches, christian schools, college, and camp. Oh yes. There’s often this expectation that if the hubby is “in ministry” that the wife is a bonus. I’ve seen guys who were looking for gals to marry who would “enhance” their ministry with their own talents like piano playing, or amazing voice, or the right connections because of parents. That would make me sick actually. Yeah, grrrrrr! But because of those very kids of exceptions girls I know would begin to feel inferior to their husband’s calling if they did not have some of those very “ministry enhancing talents.” When really, if God wants you to be “in ministry” He’ll give you what you need for that. There isn’t a list somewhere in the heavens that says, “Minister’s wife MUST play piano, yadda, yadda, yadda.” No! And in fact why should we have the expectation that if the man is somehow involved in ministry that it’s “okay” to lay a bunch of ministry burdens on the wife as well?

I mean, I love being involved in the camp ministry with Stuart. I do wish that I could be more involved WITH HIM in it. However right now I have 2 other little men in my life that take up, oh I’d say 99% of my time. :-) I realized after our first summer with camp that if I was going to be involved with camp as much as I WANTED to be, let alone what others may expect me to be, then I will be neglecting my children. That is simply unacceptable. Since then I have, with Stuart’s help, worked on finding a balance so that I CAN find that fulfilling involvement with camp without heaping on the guilt of leaving my kids to someone else’s care extensively. It’s a constant back and forth, but I think we are doing okay.

Still I do personally struggle with those feelings of “not enough” when there are other people who have exorbitant expectations for me, or anyone married to a “minister.” The conclusion that we’ve come to, Stuart was solid on this before I even was, is that it’s not right. Like the lady in the article points out, Doctor’s wives aren’t expected to scrub up next to their husbands, why should the wives of people who’s “job” is ministry be expected to do the same??? Makes no sense, yet it’s prevalent thinking…. at least in circles where I roam. :-)
So what do you think?? I’d love to get some feedback on these thoughts.

Meet Liam

Well, here I am! Did you notice I was missing? Probably not. :-) We took an impromptu get-a-way for the weekend so the lads could spend time with their grandparents, and we could get a different view. It was fun! On our little ramble we happened to go to the humane society and we found…..

Drum roll…..

Liam!
Liam

He was already named and it stuck. We looked at several cats, they did have quite a selection. BTW that place was AMAZING!!! I thought all humane societies were nasty, smelly, dirty places like the one closest to us, but not so! It totally took us by surprise. Anyway, we kept coming back to Liam, and so decided he was THE ONE! However when we went to get the papers started we discovered that he was on “stray hold.” That means he had a family before, but got lost or something, and they had to keep him for certain days in case the family claimed him. *sigh* But they said it was “up” the very next day! Only then he would need to be “fixed” and all that great stuff. So we revisited some of the other cat options, but just couldn’t get Liam out of our head. We decided to pre-adopt him and then work out the details. As Stu had to be back for work, we opted for me and the lads to stay a couple days more for some extra spoiling while we waited for everything to work out. It went swimmingly! No owners showed up, surgery went well (poor guy), cat ready for pick up and voila! we have our kitty. :-)
My dad drove us, cat and all, to meet Stuart this afternoon and we’re now all one big happy family again. Liam chewed his way out of the cardboard box we had him in before we were even out of town, and spent his car ride either on my lap or ON TOP of the box between the boys in back. That had me nervous for a little while because I didn’t know how his temperament would be with the stress of being moved in the car with two lads trying to pet him. He was awesome though. He didn’t mind being touched at all and in fact spent a little time half sprawled on Myles legs. CUTE! Myles very seriously studied him while he was that close, but was extremely gentle when touching him. Yay!!
Liam is settling in well. He doesn’t seem “freaked out” at all by the house or anything. He has spent much of the evening exploring, but when it turned out to be basically a house he chose the comfiest chair and took a good cat nap. :-)
Hope you’re having a swell week. Toodles!
P.S. I got behind on my photo blog due to being out of town, but I DID take pics so if you want to see them just head over to my flickr page.

Shearing

Today was the day I finally decided it was time to chop the mops. Part of this decision came when I happened upon Qade at breakfast happily wetting his fingers with his milk and running them through his hair. Ugh! :-) Anyway, I’m still pretty intimidated by cutting hair, but I think with a little more practice I’ll be okay. These cuts were not stellar in ANY way, and I’m seeing “spots” that need some help still, and other spots that can’t be helped. ;-) Still it’s better than paying $7 a head to have someone else do it, I suppose. So here for your amusement is how it all played out in pictures.

Here is Qade’s before picture. They came out dark so it’s hard to see his hair anyway, but you can tell he’s pretty thrilled with his sucker. He got quite upset when it became covered in hair though. That was funny!

Poor Myles. I had already started to wet his hair before I remembered to take a before pic.

Honestly it wasn’t THAT traumatic. :-)

Awwww, handsome Monkey Too!

Well it’s done. I won’t have to worry about it again for another few months. Maybe by then it can be summer time and they can just be buzzed. :-D

I’m so popular!

Ha! Not!! :-) This evening my amazing techno-hub was showing me all about google analytics. (Bravo for me, I spelled that word correctly the FIRST time!) It keeps track of all the ‘traffic’ to my blog. Interesting! I did discover that someone from Australia has read my blog, or at least been there, in the past year. Africa too! Also on the map are much of the USA including Alaska!! Hi up there!! I want to come visit you some day, but only when the sun is shining! And there were also some other countries listed, but I clicked off the page too soon to see where. Anyway, it made me feel all nice and fuzzy to think of my adoring “fans” ha! :-) Cracks me up. It is nice to think that maybe someone somewhere is reading some of the blather that I fling out into cyberspace sometimes. To be honest I really write more for ME. I know I’m selfish, but I’m trying to learn to be more of a servant. Being stuck way out in the middle of nowhere, seriously we are, I find myself with a NEED for some kind of connection to the rest of the human race, and blogging, in a way, meets that. So there you have it, it’s not really for YOU, it’s for ME. :-) But I’m so very glad that you come along for the ride! I do blog to keep my friends and family updated on the most recent cute thing my kids are doing, or my own personal goals… which don’t go back and read that new years post, I haven’t been doing so well. IT’S THE WEATHER, I TELL YOU!! But I also do write down some thoughts, feelings, and things that I’m learning along the way as well. Hope that someone might be reading it who can relate, and will feel encouraged from it too. :-)

So there you have it… a post all about MMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE! :-) Enjoy!
