Myles has 2 little teeth just bursting to break through! In fact one may have breached today! I can see a little white spot and feel it pretty well with my finger, but I’m not sure if it’s actually cut yet. Poor fellow!
It’s kind of funny going through babyhood the second time around. When Qade started getting teeth and doing all the “first things” I though it was so great and cheered him on and such. Now I want to keep Myles a baby for longer.
Ha! Don’t know why that is, but I do know that I’ll miss the little gummy smile when his teeth do come through. However, I also know that I’ll love his toothy grin just as much! Hopefully these teeth won’t give him too much trouble while they are coming up. I’ve given him a bit of Tylenol today to help out a bit, and he’s been chomping on his fist quite a bit. Right now both the boys are snoozing peacefully, something I wish I could be doing too.
Perhaps I’ll get a chance. Ta ta!

Bye-Bye Gummie

Woo-hoo!
03.11
Last night Qade slept like a log in his new bed! He didn’t budge a bit! This morning I actually went in a woke him up at 8. His head was firmly pressed against the head board, so there wasn’t much of a chance of him falling out. Ha! He seemed to enjoy it and was playing a game with himself today where he would ready, set, go and jump onto his bed.
He also took his nap in it today and didn’t get up at all!!! I was more than shocked! When he did wake up after a very good nap, I heard him knocking on his door.
Anyway, I know it’s only one day, but I think the “cold turkey” method worked for him. I’m pretty excited about it! We’ll see what happens tonight, but I’m anticipating good things. Well, I need to go make some cereal for the piranah and get some stuff done this evening. Hope you all are groovy! Ta ta1
Yikers!

So today I got the “grand” idea to bring up one of our toddler beds and put it together. My plan was to leave it in Qade’s room so he could get “used” to it being in there. So this afternoon I loaded up the boys and we went for an “adventure” to the cellar and picked up all the pieces (plus and extra one that Qade sneaked it). THEN the miraculous part happened! I put the bed together with NO instructions by myself!!! Well, actually Qade “helped” but even with that I succeeded!:-) After it was all built and ready to go Qade got the biggest kick acting like a little monkey on the thing. He bounced all over it singing along with Veggie Tales. Yay, thought I, this is going to go over well. Stuart was super impressed when he came home that I had put the thing together and asked me if I would put Qade to bed in it tonight. I gave him my ‘plan’ but then got to thinking…..
Qade is now in his room snoozing (presumably) in his big boy bed. Ack!!! I’m a little nervous about this, not because I’m afraid he won’t be okay, but because I’m not sure I’m ready for such a big boy. *sniff* He’s still my lil Bubba, and I’d just like to keep him little for longer. But ya can’t slow them down, I’m learning. Qade went down in that bed like he’d been doing it all his life, so I guess he was ready. We’ll see how the night goes. I’ll update y’all tomorrow as to the success of the experiment. The gate is up so hopefully we’ll have no night prowling.
Ta ta till later!
Time Weirdness
03.09
The time change forward always messes me up for a bit. I can’t figure out why!! I can “fall back” without so much as a flinch, but the springing forward just goes against my wiring I suppose.
A friend asked about it because she was told, correctly, that AZ doesn’t do day light savings. However there is ONE little community on the north east corner of AZ that DOES do DLS, and guess what? Yep, that’s us! It’s a pretty confusing time of year for all involved because even though the school and all the businesses (Ha, yeah, like 3 of them) change to DLS time some of the community does not! So this leads us to have issues that we try to resolve by telling people if we’re talking about “fast time” (DLS) or “slow time” (the rest of the state!) and then if you add in “Navajo time” which is just basically show up whenever we feel like it, there are a lot of time confusions! *Whew!* Then we personally run into the problem of the camp being of course on the regular time like the rest of the state. It’s just stupid if you ask me. I think AZ should go on DLS just like everyone else, but if not, I think we should do what the rest of the state does. Just my own humble opinion. I think the “reasoning” for not going on DLS for AZ is to cut down on the “hot” hours of the day, but it does’t really work because in the middle of summer the sun is coming up at 4:30am!!! Not cool! ![]()
On a more fun time subject though, Myles has now successfully slept 6 nights through in a row!!
He didn’t mind the time change, we’ve just kind of shifted our “routine” an hour.
Works for me! I didn’t sleep so fab last night, even though my littlest Love did. I think I saw every hour except 1 on the clock.
Just one of those restless ones. Oh well!
We had a couple over for dinner last night. Stu met the lady at work, she just recently came as the mid-school counselor. They are messianic Jews and have been very involved in ministry outreaches around the world. It was so encouraging to talk to them and hear some of their stories! We had a great time, even if the roast was a bit dry.
The hershey pie turned out well at least! Ha!
Today the laundry heap is begging to be done, and some other “recovery” things around the house need to be taken care of as well. Qade is contentedly playing in his room, he even closed the door!! SO I should probably take advantage of the situation and get busy! Hope you are all having a wonderful start to your week! Enjoy the after dinner light!
Three Nights
03.07
Tis true! We’ve had 3 great nights in the Myles camp!! Last night wasn’t great all around because Qade woke up screaming at 3:30a, but my Darling Stu went and comforted him while I was lazy! Myles did wake up at 4ish just to have a little conversation with himself, but he must have been boring because he was asleep again very soon. I’m loving these good nights of rest. Tonight is the “spring forward” night and that always makes me nervous because it throws a kink in everything! So here’s hoping that the lads will sleep sweetly regardless of what the silly clocks are doing.
Now then, to clear things up from my “coffee quote” a demitasses in the dictionary is “a small coffee cup” just so there’s no confusion about that. ![]()
Stu’s parents are here today and the boys have been having so much fun with them! Grandpa can really get some good belly laughs out of Myles (not that it’s hard!) and Qade has been reveling in the extra attention of course! It’s fun, and hopefully soon Auntie Tiff will arrive with Aiden. I’m so excited to see that lil boy! Course I’m looking forward to visiting with Tiff too, but we parents understand that now little people are involved we’re usually only an after thought.
Ha!
Tonight we’re having green chili stew and homemade tortillas, if I can pull it off. The recipes I found for the tortillas all seemed similar and simple, amazingly enough, so we’ll see if it’s true or if I make a royal mess.
Stay tuned!
Coffee Quote of the Week

When I can’t have my three daily demitasses of coffee, I’m as miserable as a dried-up piece of roast goat. ~ J.S. Bach
Knock-knock, who’s there?
03.06
This is a little trick Qade has learned. He likes to close doors behind him, but he doesn’t like to be “stuck” so he will knock on the door when he’s ready to get out.
Funny funny kid! He doesn’t yell or anything just a persistent knocking sound. As for the room time, I’ve backed off of that for now. Lately he has volentarily been playing more in his room by himself, but he doesn’t understand when I put the gate up and it causes quite a meltdown, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of room time. Once he is in his “big boy bed” we will have the gate up at his room at night so we don’t have to worry about him prowling the house by his lonesome, and I think that will help him get used to it more. But since he is playing nicely in his room more often these days, it’s just not a battle I’m willing to fight. He has a little CD player in there and we’ve been listening to some Veggie Tales songs that his Grandma Noggle got him at Christmas. Qade has learned how to pull out the bottom drawer and use it as a step so that he can hit the play button should the music stop. Hmmmmm??? What should a good mommy do? Right now I’m just blinking at it.
It’s not like he climbs up the whole thing and tries to parachute off the top or anything, so we’ll cross that bridge IF we have to. Ha!
Okay the verdict on the stew: It was “okay” say both Stuart and I. The flavor was a little different for a stew, but not bad. I saved the leftovers in the freezer and we’ll certainly eat them up, but I won’t be making the stew again. The meat was nice and tender, but the flavor was just a little too weird for us.
So there’s my oh-so-insightful take on Chinese 5-Spice.
Maybe I’ll make a cake with it!
Last night was our 2nd full night of sleep in a row!!! Myles did NOT go down easy so I was nervous. He had a nice helping of cereal for dinner at nearly 6pm, then Mommy fed him as usual at 7pm, and he konked right out! However he kept waking up and crying from about 7:45 on. I went up and rocked him a bit, which didn’t really help because he doesn’t like to be held to sleep, but I could tell he just wanted sleep, so he finally went back to sleep, but that didn’t last long, and he was acting like he was a starved child. Go figure! So finally i made up a little bottle, because I knew his tummy could NOT be as empty as he thought it was. Sure enough he swallowed about 2 oz and that was that. He was wide awake by this time, but didn’t want any more formula. I figured I’d be spending some time with him around 4am, but went to bed earlyish around 9:30 or maybe it was 10, just can’t remember. However, littlest love slept soundly till after 7am!!! I was so shocked!
This is a very awesome thing, and sleep feels SO good!
Since I had such wonderful sleep, I’m determined to get a bunch of stuff done today. Right now the dishwasher, washer and dryer are all happily working while I ‘doink’ on the computer. Now I just need to get that broom and vacuum to figure out how to move themselves.
Where in the world is Marry Poppins when you need her? Ha! Well, I hope that you all have a spectacular weekend! We are looking forward to seeing our nephew, Aiden for a little bit! It’s going to be fun to get the boys together now that they’re both walking and “talking” ha ha ha! Toodles!
Bluster and Blow
03.05
Alrighty so the lion of March is here for good. I was kind of hoping that we could get some lamb days in here, but the wind has been howling round the eves like mad! Yesterday in the morning it was just beginning to get blowy so I snagged the chance to take the boys for a ride in their stroller. It was blowing some, and cracked me up to hear Myles gasp every time a gust hit his face. Funny funny! However, I’m sure that wind was blowing all the Juniper pollen right up my nostrils because that afternoon my nose/throat/eyes started driving me crazy!!! It hasn’t gotten better either. Today the wind acts like it would like nothing better than to take the roof off so it can make my nose even worse! ![]()
Beyond all that though things are going swell. Myles slept ALL night last night, which was spectacular! I fed him a good dinner of rice cereal which he actually really seems to enjoy. Well, after the first bite that is. He has to get past the texture at first, but then he loves it! I’ve hit a couple snags recently in the nursing arena which have made me contemplate weaning, but the last couple of days have been better, so now I’m not sure what I’ll do. I have peered into Myles’ mouth and seen the spots where 2 bottom teeth would like to be poking through. Once they do I’m not sure I’ll have the courage to continue nursing- ha! We’ll see. We take one day at a time round here.
Qade has been his regular toddler, hilarious, getting into trouble self. Really though he is getting better about obeying, and I’m learning to find creative ways to get him over the whining and temper tantrum parts of life. Yesterday he was begging for a “cookie” to which I replied in a very deep strange voice “NOOOOOOOOOO!” For some reason this struck him as hilarious so he would keep saying “cookie” and I would keep replying the same way, only he was laughing so hard that he could hardly say cookie any more.
It worked as a game and helped him to not whine, and then he completely forgot that he had been asking for a cookie altogether. Hee hee! This morning he wandered around in circles with one of his toy’s baskets on his head for a considerable long time. Myles and I were laughing at him which probably prompted him to keep going. He’s tons of fun, and every day, even though he can be a challenge, I’m so thankful for my little lad! I’m also so thankful for my littlest lad who is learning and growing and changing so much each day. He’s really getting the hang of sitting up by himself, but he’s not to the point he can do it unattended. He’ll get thrilled with something and his first reaction is to rocket himself backwards loosing every bit of his precarious balance.
So this mommy mostly holds onto him, but lets go just now and then so he can see what it feels like.
Tonight, just for the record, we are having 5-spice beef stew. Some time back, probably about a year ago, I came across this recipe and thought it looked delicious! However actually finding the Chinese 5-Spice was impossible!! I had looked everywhere I could think of and had relatives looking too. Eventually I gave up on it, but then I think it was Oma who located some of the stuff. Now I’ve had it for a little while, but have been reluctant to try it because I smelled it and it didn’t smell like something you’d want in a stew. More like a cookie!
But today I bit the bullet and hopefully my poor family won’t suffer when they bite into the stew for dinner.
I’ll give you a verdict in my next post! Till then have fabulous days! Ta ta.
P.S. I’ve posted some recent pics on facebook and will try to get some up here soon!
Tick, tock, tee!
03.01
Visiting fam is fun! Two little lads refusing to let mommy and daddy sleep, not so much.
The last 2 nights have been rough! Myles has actually done very well considering, but Qade has been a little taz, I’m sure it’s his Daddy coming out in him.
I can’t be too hard on them because I have a hard time sleeping in a new place/bed too. I just try for it a little quieter. Last night and the night before seemed almost identical in our sleep patterns. Qade had a hard time “going down” and talked, jabbered, giggled, out right laughed, then cried for quite some time before he finally dropped off. Myles fell asleep fine on our bed even amidst all of his brother’s capers. So then once we’re all abed and trying to blissfully sleep, Myles stirs and fusses a bit. Not enough to need attention, but enough to wake up big brother. Qade responds by deciding that it must be time to be up forever and he begins his talking, laughing and mimicking every noise that he hears Myles make. This goes on for over an hour, during which Mommy and Daddy have reminded Qade that it is “night-night” and re-tucked him in, but to no avail. Myles has been diligently trying to soothe himself back to sleep, but as soon as it’s quiet for a few minutes Qade takes up his mantra again. FINALLY at 4am Mommy takes Myles out of the room for an early breakfast and Daddy joins us since sleep isn’t happening. Finding himself left alone, Qade begins to wail at the top of his lungs and Daddy has to go make him lie down in his bed. Eventually he crashes out and the 3 of us venture back into the room. We get all cuddled up and ready to try for a few precious z’s when Qade decides that he is “ah-done” with the “mock” (drink) that he’d been begging for so steadily earlier and begins to whine again. This time Mommy puts him to bed again with a “this is not a good choice for you to make” tone, and we all collapse into heaps for a brief nap before everyone is awake and at it again at 7:45. *sigh* Oh well, some things you just can’t “fix” in the middle of the night.
Hope you all rested well and are having a great Sunday! (Don’t sleep in church!)
