Monkey Man and Hibernating Bear
11.08
That pretty much sums up our munchkins right now. The other day Stuart called Myles a hibernating bear because his favorite thing to do is sleep! In fact sometimes he seems almost mad that he has to wake up to eat, but he still will.
Myles is now 4 weeks old and at his Dr. apt last week he weighed 8′6, so he’s chunkin’ up for sure. He’s wearing size one diapers and has basically grown out of his newborn clothes *sniff* it goes way too fast!
Now to our other child who has become quite the monkey lately. Yesterday I walked into the dining room to find him sitting on top of the table poking at the computer that was sitting there. I happened to have the camera in my hand so I took a couple shots before I took him off and informed him of the “no-no.” Then this weekend (i think) Stu and I were in the office and I heard Qade screaming from his room. It was one of those “I’m frustrated” screams, but he persisted so I went to see what the problem was. When I walked in I laughed out loud! He had climbed up the changing table, but somehow was stuck, his hands clenching the top and his feet slid into the second shelf. He was perched there with his little bum hanging down! Oh, I wish I’d had the camera that time. He wasn’t scared, he was just stuck and it was pretty funny!
As for me nothing too exciting is going on beyond the adventures of my 2 little lads. I did manage to get the floor mopped this week. That was a major accomplishment for sure! I felt pretty good about it too. Today I spent a lot of time baking muffins and some breads for refreshments on Sunday. It’ll be yummy, so you should come!
Stu will be preaching too, so you’d get a double blessing.
Well, I need to think about feeding my family something for dinner, so I’ll stop yacking for now. Have a marvy-dandy week!
Blustery Day
11.02
It’s Sunday and right now all the menfolk are sleeping while I doodle on the computer.
I should take a nap too, but I’m such a lousy napper that I’m often better off to skip it. It takes me ages to fall asleep and then I usually feel like trash when I do wake up, not good. So anyway, I’ve been catching up on my blog reading and facebook instead. ![]()
The weather is blowy here today. Makes it feel like fall really. It’s been so warm the past week that it really hasn’t felt like the end of Oct. Today though the leaves are blowing all around, and it figures because Stu and Qade took the time to rake the yard yesterday. ![]()
I’m slowly working on condensing my recipe collection. I have several cook books along with an entire subscription to a couple different recipe magazines that are sitting up in a shelf rarely used. My goal is to go through them all (slowly, I tell you) and take out every recipe that I “might” use then either get rid of, or give away the books. It will help me to actually use more “new” recipes if they are in an easier to access format. I’ll then get a couple of those 3×5 card holders and organize and categorize the recipes in those. That will really help me when I’m making our monthly menu. I can easily go through the recipes, pull out the ones I’ll need for the month and make a shopping list from that. So in theory that’s where I’m headed with that. I managed to make it through one magazine yesterday, so that’s still progress.
I’ve given myself a 6 month goal to get this done, so I’ll just gauge it by Myles’ age.
Nothing profound to write about today, sorry. I would encourage you to try the latte recipe I posted though. Stu and I had some last night again, and it was very scrumptious! It’s truly the right time of year for it for sure! Have a swell week everyone!
Chai Tea Latte
11.01
Hi ya friends. I figure it might be awhile for some of you to make it over to chat over a nice latte, so I’m sending you the recipe so you can try it yourself with someone special. This recipe makes 2 servings, so invite a friend, and have a delic drink, only think of me when you do. ![]()
2 tea bags
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1 c. water
1 c. milk
1/4 c brown sugar
2 Tbs refrigerated French vanilla nondairy creamer
Whipped topping and ground nutmeg, optional
Place the tea bags, cinnamon, ginger and all spice in the coffee filter of a drip coffeemaker. Add water; brew according to manufacturer’s directions.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the milk, brown sugar and creamer. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through and sugar is dissolved. Pour milk mixture into mugs; stir in tea. Dollop with whipped topping and sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
Enjoy!
Who knew…
11.01
…that being a parent would cause you to count hrs of sleep like precious pearls on a string, or
…that nothing else would make you so happy to give up sleep.
…that you would hork down your food just to make sure something got eaten before you were next “needed” again.
…that the songs most often heard in your home would be “Old MacDonald” and “Itsy bitsty Spider” or
…that a nursery rime about a spider could have such a calming effect on a child.
…that all the time you spent snuggling with your spouse before children would now be condensed into a 5 minute neck rub before you both collapse in exhaustion, or
…that the 5 min neck rub would mean so much!
…that the “voice” of your little one could pierce through the deepest sleep and drag you back to reality in an instant.
…that “working up” the energy to roll on the floor with your kids or build and destroy a lego tower would be better than a caffeine jolt.
…that you could nurse and infant and hold a toddler on your lap at the same time, or
…that you could play “this little piggy” on top of all that too!
I’ll tell you who knows all this stuff. It’s the mommies and daddies who have the privilege of possessing this information. Sometimes we try to kindly pass some of it along to couples who are expecting their first, but the truth is, it’s so experience based that you really just can’t give it away like advice. However, we know that the moment that little squirming (sometimes squalling) bundle is placed in their arms, somehow they will “know” too. They’ll know the truth that shines through all the other things they will learn, and that is, who knew that you could love someone so small so very very much!
Male Bonding
11.01
It’s official, I have been replaced. I am no longer the “premiere parent” in our little man’s life.
Fortunately I can be happy about my replacement. I don’t have to watch my baby bond with the preschool teacher, or the babysitter, or anyone so unrelated to us. No, I’ve been usurped by my very wonderful husband. I knew that it would happen sometime. Little boys need their dads, and at some point in their early toddler years they go through a definate bonding time with the man in their life. I suppose I should have seen it coming just because we were having another baby. That’s certainly something that would propel Qade more toward Daddy for sure. BUT tonight when I was feeding Myles, and Qade came in looking all around, I asked him where he was going and he said, “Da-da,” and proceeded to search the house for his dad. Stuart has been such an awesome help to me these weeks since Myles arrival. I know I couldn’t do it without him. He has really taken charge with Qade especially, (I mean, it’s not like he can feed Myles whenever) and has helped him a TON with his attitude adjustments and just learning to deal with the new family dynamic. So now Qade gets the greatest kick just hanging out with his dad. They have oodles of fun together, wrestling, cleaning up toys, playing basketball outside, hauling wood and just about anything they can do together is great fun. I on the other hand get more whines, and tears, and fits, but that’s because I’m mom, who gets food, snacks, and drinks ready (only not always on demand- hence the fits) instead of being Mr. Fun like Daddy.
It’s different, and I have to go through my own adjustments to our new family dynamic, but I have to say that I’m very glad that Stuart and Qade have each other, and I’m so thankful that I have them both too!
