… to check out my babyhacks blog! I’ve been faithfully updating it several times a week, and don’t want anyone to “miss out” on my amazing, fabulous, never before seen tips. Ha ha ha! No, I’m kidding, I know no “mommy” tip is original with me. There have been way too many mommies that have come before me and had to be creative with a LOT less than what I have. I just like to think that maybe someone will be helped by a “tip.” And speaking of tips, if you have any just e-mail me, and I’ll add them to the blog at some point. I really like to have other people’s opinions and ideas of what worked for them. Hey, I’m a mommy who needs tips too!

A Day of Dead Things
09.28
Yesterday was an exciting day all of it’s own! Yes, the post title is true, there were several dead things that showed up in our little lives. Our coat closet has been “smelly” for some time now, I know, it makes me want to gag just thinking of it. Stuart and I had both independantly looked in there for the “source” of the nasty odor, but had no luck. Well since we’re getting ready for a garage sale we decided to go through the closet together, to consolidate (don’t jackets pile up so quickly???) and organize. In that process, Stuart found an old mouse nest and in it were several dead baby mice. Ugh!! I nearly lost it at that point. I’m so thankful for my stalwart husband who willingly deals with stuff like that even though I know it doesn’t thrill his heart too. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Stuart decided to take the car apart to see if he could discover why it had such a reek as well. The whole garage was smelly!! It took him several hours because he basically had to take it all apart, and in the air compressor (or something) he did discover a nest! So that’s why the AC hasn’t been working!! But that wasn’t the worst part, because as he was pulling out nest stuff from up in the car, he grabbed a mutilated dead mouse! Oh gross! I don’t even know why I’m telling you all this, it turns my stomach just thinking about it! The car had been parked outside all summer because our garage door was broken, so the mice and whatever had full access to it. Blah! Well, once again, my hubby is my hero because I never would have been able to do what he did. For one thing in my blubby state I couldn’t have fit under that dash, but secondly, I NEVER would have attempted it for fear of what I’d find! What a blessing it is to have a husband who is motivated to take care of things, and not lazy and indolent. I’m so thankful for the man God gave me!! So think happy thoughts! The other morning I saw the outside cat devouring a mouse, so hopefully we won’t be having any more nastys about! Qade is dancing with his wall shadow right now… if that doesn’t make you smile, nothing will.
Anger Management
09.27
HERE is a great article called “When Moms Get Angry.” It’s a good reminder to be an actor not a reactor. Anyway, I thought I’d send you all to read it if you get a chance. Who knows in what stress filled moments it’ll come back to you and help calm a would be volcano. Raising kids is a HUGE blessing, but can also be a lot of stress, which can lead to angry outbursts. None of us wants our little ones to grow up in an atmosphere of anger, or harsh words. Just something to think about. Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend! I am!!!
Fat Friday
09.26
Yep that’s what today is.
I’m the fat in the Friday, just so ya know! Ha! I woke up tired… isn’t that a shame? Qade woke up not feeling too good. He was a tiny bit warm, and just not so much himself. I think it’s the terrible teeth that are to blame. His top eye teeth have actually cut, I think, but the bottom two (are they still eye teeth on the bottom??) haven’t come through yet. I can see them, but they aren’t through yet, poor boy. So anyway, I didn’t put any pressure on us to get stuff done today. Qade had fun destroying the kitchen by strewing the towels and dish cloths all over the floor, which I had fun putting back during nap time.
I rested with my coffee this morning, and did some crochet. Then I had a brilliant idea to make some “freezer muffins.” Ha! We’ll be having fam for company in a week or so, and I wanted something easy to pop in the oven for breakfast. So I made an Oat-buttermilk batter, put it in the paper cups and froze it. The plan is that when I want a muffin, I just pop it in the tin and it bakes like “normal.” I think I’ll “test drive” one tomorrow, just to make sure it works. I also made a batch of granola muffins which sound really nummy right now. ![]()
Well, hubby is home from work, wrestling with the lad, and I’m doinkin’ on the computer. I’d rather be with them, so Ta ta!
36 weeks!
09.26
And about ready to POP! It’s encouraging to think that I “could” meet this baby in just a little over a week and he’d still be “full term” but it’s discouraging to think that it could be yet another 5 weeks away, as in the case of our reluctant Qade. I’m doing great though. Besides the normal bothers that come with being this huge and uncomfy I have nothing to complain of… pity… makes blogging so much less interesting- ha!
I believe that my brain is nesting though. That means that it keeps me awake all night thinking of “stuff.” Stuff to do, stuff I wish I could do, stuff that needs to happen, stuff that might happen, just stuff! Then when I finally do get to sleep I have wacky dreams!! The other night I dreamed that my sis-in-law’s midwife didn’t show up to deliver her baby, so I had to help. Ugh!!! That was not a fun dream… Joy, make sure you have a backup that ISN’T me, okay?
Anyway, the point is when I have crazy nights, I get up too tired to actually “nest.”
Today though, I had plenty of energy for some reason, so I did get some stuff done. I did some more organizing the depths of the spare room. So much work, and it seems to accumulate in there! Then I made some more freezer biscuits kind of blending 2 recipes. They still turned out, miracle! Then as if I hadn’t gotten enough flour everywhere, I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Baked half, and the other half will go in the freezer in “log” form where it will be ready to be sliced and baked whenever the urge for fresh baked cookies comes on. ![]()
This evening we went for a walk after dinner. Qade actually walked a good long way! He should sleep well tonight! When we got back Stuart started watering the lawn and Qade got the HUGEST kick out of walking through the sprinkles! It was very funny! I got a bit of it on video, so one day all you adoring Qade fans will be able to see it. *sigh* That’s another thing I’m totally behind on. Oh well, someday! Now my little bubby is walking around in nothing but his diaper, and I’m getting ready to put him to bed just as soon as I send this off to cyber space for you all! Hope you had a wonderful lime green Thursday!
17 Months
09.24
Yep, Qade hit the big one- seven yesterday! It’s hard to believe that I almost have a year and a half old! Wow! I honestly can’t remember life without him! It’s seems like he’s always been with us, and yet, I still can’t believe that he’s not our “baby” any more. Every day he seems more like a big boy and less like a baby. I still like to “baby” him now and then, but mostly he won’t have it- ha! Here’s some of the stuff he’s up to these days.
He weighs 22 1/2 pounds. Not gaining too fast right now but the doc says that’s normal
He is 32 and a quarter inches tall.
Vocabulary is probably around the 30ish words right now. Some favorite words are:
Picture (pic-toe)
Light (liiiiiile)
Snack (nak)
Drink (me)
Dog (Do or gog)
Kitty (teeee)
Ball
He is still signing, and saying “Please, thank you, more, and up” His “p” has gotten really good on “up”
Qade listens very well, and we’re so thankful for that. Especially fat momma who would otherwise have a hard time chasing him down. He will “come back” when he’s walking around outside. He will “put it back” when he gets something. He can be told to get his cup, book, snack, or drink and he knows what to do. He’s great at “giving it to mommy!” He also knows what to do when we tell him to “get your shoes.” We’re still working on being gentle with the cat.
Qade can entertain himself for EXTENDED chunks of time with his board books, or even playing alone in his room. He still sleeps 12 hrs a night, and has 2ish naps a day. He’s beginning to grow out of a nap, but isn’t quite ready to always go without it. If he’s not sleepy though, he’ll stay contented in his crib talking and playing with his stuffed cow, Buford.
It’s too cute! I love to peek through the crack in the door and watch him.
Some of his favorite foods are oatmeal. We have it almost every morning. He LOVES bacon and sausage! BPJ has become a favorite lunch, but he’ll gladly eat, chicken noodle soup, split pea, or just about whatever mommy has. I don’t believe he has a picky bone in his body (yet) and will eat whatever we have for dinner, even if it’s a little spicy! It’s great! He loves playing outside, and we all enjoy our evening family walks. He’s pretty much running now, and is pretty speedy! His favorite toys are still the ball and his various cars, and train.
Hmmm.. well, I guess I’ll leave it at that then. Wish you all could know him as well as I do. He’s such an awesome kid! I’m so glad that we get to have him in our family! Can’t wait to see how he loves his little brother!
Another Tuesday
09.23
So far this Tuesday is not living up to the reputation set by last week’s.
Yay! We got home last evening, and Stuart and I busily set our wills in action to get things put away. I read the “Love Comes Softly” series by Jenette Oak when I was 13, and there’s a part in the first book where the guy brings home all the “winter supplies” and Marty busily bustles around putting things away “heady with the bounty of it” and for some reason, I always think about that part when we’ve made a trip to Costco and arrive at home with “bounty” to be put away.
I’m very thankful for God’s provision, and I’m very very thankful that I don’t have to go grocery shopping every week! Anyway, so that means today that I need to divide stuff up and put it in the freezer, because with just the 3 of us (even with a pregnant appetite) we can’t go through the bulk stuff fast enough without freezing it. I started laundry this morning too. Have you ever noticed that no matter how long you’re gone, and even if you did your laundry while you were away, there is ALWAYS a pile of dirty clothes waiting to be washed once you get home? I think they recruit and multiply while we’re away.
I also need to get the new baby’s stuff sorted and put away. Stuart packed all of the diapers and wipes that we got into the closet in Qade’s room last night. We really did get a HEAP of wipes, but I’m so happy about it! We may very well not need to buy wipes again for a year!!! Wow! I’ve got to get some “sensitive” laundry detergent for baby 2’s clothes. Qade never had any skin irritations with his clothes or detergents, but every tiny one is different, and I’d like to get this one’s stuff washed and ready before he makes his debut. ![]()
Qade was having a rough morning. Several days off his regular schedule kind of gets to him, poor guy. He had a blast with Grandma and Grandpa and Oma this weekend, but he needs “normal” again now. It was pretty funny actually when we got home last night, he became totally hyper. The very first thing he did was find his big ball and roll it all around the house with many squeals and much loud talking. I’ve never seen him so excited about being home, it was too funny! That eventually wore off, however and Mr. Grumpy head came back, so to bed he went. This morning it was much the same story. He woke up happy as ever, but by 9:15 was completely melting down over a box he was trying to play with. At that point Mommy made an executive decision that Bubba needed his morning nap early. Qade must have agreed, even though he didn’t know it, because he went right to sleep.
Ah-ha! I just figured out what my morning has been missing! COFFEE!! I get to spoiled when I visit Grandma, because she has coffee and breakfast for us every morning… if I stayed there too long I’d be the size of the Titanic!
But it sure is good!! Well, I’m going to go make meself some coffee and then get busy doing stuff that needs to be done. I’m thinking biscuits and gravy for dinner tonight. My month menu didn’t include these days because we were going to be out of town, so I get to “wing” it.
A Funny

I read this blog from a mommy who recently had her 3rd baby. It just cracked me up! You’ve got to read it! It’s really short, but it’ll give you a reason to smile if not laugh outright!
Fun weekend!
09.21
Hello friends!
Yesterday was the shower for “new” baby!
His cake said “Welcome Baby Noggle” because his name hasn’t been announced yet. Mom even had the ladies who came write down name “suggestions” on their papers for me. Ha ha ha! Maybe it’ll come in handy, we still don’t have a middle name. The shower was lots of fun though, and people were so sweet in their giving. Baby outfits have got to be some of the funnest things to get! I also got oodles of baby wipes and diapers which I also LOVE to get. Practical gifts are great! You just can’t have enough diapers for the wee (and poo) ones.
Ha ha! My mom got us a pack n play for ????? and it has a bassinet insert which will come in so handy while he’s living in mommy and daddy’s room for a few months. He’ll actually probably sleep in it for 6 months at least since Qade is still occupying the crib. We’re thinking of getting Qade a toddler bed for his 2nd birthday. I still can’t believer that he’s so big! (sniff) Anyway, back to the loot, my Grandma (Oma) got us a bag with lots of cool stuff in it, but one of the things I had really wanted was an arterial thermometer! They’re great! They use them in Qade’s doctor’s office. All you do is swipe it across the baby’s forhead and it reads their temp. So much easier than the other options. ![]()
Okay, so enough of all that, we did get some great things for our baby, and it makes me so excited for him to finally get here! Saturday afternoon we took Qade to get his photo taken with is grandparents. I got a coupon for Sears to get collage photos for cheap so it worked out well. I wanted Bubba to have a pic of him with his grandparents before the baby comes. I’ll most likely do the same thing for the next one too, and then get them done together. The guy taking the pictures though was not good with babies. I mean, if the baby doesn’t smile do you really think that they should say, “What’s wrong with you?” NO! I think not! But we did get some good shots finally.
We were going to build a bear for baby 2 like we did for Qade before he came, but unfortunately the store ended up being in a different mall. Oops! So we’re planning to do it on Monday when we head home. We built a cow for Qade, but I’m not sure what we’re going to do this time… we’ll just have to see what they have.
Well, hope you’re having a swell weekend! I’m at 35 weeks now, and hope hope hoping that baby two is here in like 3 weeks!!!
