Rain in the Mountains

This morning we drove down to camp.  There is a mission board retreat going on, but also the BIG truck that has our newest staff members earthly possessions in it arrived and needed unloading.  On our way here I noticed some big dark clouds looming ahead of us, and figured that it would be raining when we arrived.  Sure enough!  It’s slowing down the unloading process for the truck which is unfortunate, but I like the rain.  Especially since we don’t see it all that often out here.  I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to participate in the retreat.  They have a couple afternoon sessions today, but I’m with Qade as he’s having a much needed nap, so I will likely not make it to those.  There is a service tonight, but since Qade has not yet mastered the “sitting still for that long” ability, I’ll probably not attempt that either.  Qade is getting better.  On Wed, I didn’t have to take him out till nearly the very end of the service.  It was so cute when Stuart was leading the singing, Qade started waving his arm in the air too!  Funny boy!

Qade is now 15 months, and I haven’t made his well baby check up yet, so I don’t know what he weighs, but I do know that he has gone through a growth spurt lately.  Especially now that he’s walking everywhere he seems sooo much bigger!  I was looking at his little frame with his baby foot imprint in it yesterday and thinkin, “Wow, could it really have been that tiny!”  And I had a similar thought as he and I were going through his infant clothes to see what would work for the next one.  I held up one of his newborn onsies, and was like, “You actually used to fit in this!”  He was unimpressed though.  Qade now has about a 15-20 word vocabulary.  His favorite words right now are ball, dog, and kitty.  He usually throws in lots of “uh-oh’s” as well, and of course he says please quite a bit.  He thinks that if he says it that automatically means that he gets what he’s asking for.  It’s a difficult concept.  Qade LOVES sausage and bacon!  I can occasionally get him to eat other meat, but those 2 I can always count on.  He’s doing pretty good at his fruit and will even eat some fruit cup peaches now which he wouldn’t touch before.  Something that always works though is garlic bread!  Especially the Olive Garden kind, he just gobbles down!  One of Qade’s favorite games right now is to ride on Daddy’s back!  He’ll climb aboard all by himself and hang on for dear life as Stuart crawls around the livingroom and eventually “dumps” Qade onto the couch amidst squeels and giggles of delight.  It’s hilarious to watch!  Qade is doing very good with “no-no’s” as I said before, and he’s starting to get very good at coming when we call him.  He’s learning to be “gentle” with the cat, which I think is good practice before he gets a baby brother. :-)   His screaming issues haven’t been as bad the past couple days, so maybe he’s getting over that fun little phase. :-)   Today I put him in tennis shoes to come to camp, and at first he was complaining, but then Stu took him outside, and he thought it was pretty cool that in those shoes he could walk over the rocks and such.  After that he has had quite a kick out of stomping around in his little shoes.  I just can’t get over what a big boy he looks like.  (sniff)  :-)

Okay, well, that kind of brings you up to date with our lil man and whatever else is going on.  Have a marvelous Lime Green Thursday!

The 2 mile (pant pant) walk

Today it was kinda cloudy this morning so Qade and I ventured a walk.  If I’m going to do it, I’ve realized that I need to get it in early in the day because by mid afternoon, I’m pooped!  So since it wasn’t so hot we went.  It was a really good walk too, there’s just one teeny tiny problem with it.  Well, it’s mostly me.  I think it’s a mental thing.  See when we first start out from the house the road goes up hill.  It’s quite steep, but that’s not the part that gets me.  My mental issues come in with the texture of the hill.  It’s totally sand!  Not Charleston beach nice packed sand, but more like play ground sandbox sand with a little cow manure thrown in.  It’s so deep that pushing Qade’s stroller up that hill is a HUGE challenge.  Once we get to the top it levels out and we’re fine, the sand even tapers off.  It’s just that first hill!!  I’ve even had the thought cross my mind to throw the stroller in the Envoy and drive to the top of the hill and then walk, ha!  Silly, I know, when the whole point is exercise I should be happy to exert the energy.  But I have to admit that the thought of that hill has quenched my walking ambitions more than once!  Hopefully though, with this cofession made, I will be better able to overcome the “block” and get myself out there to walk.  Today’s walk really was nice.  Even on “the hill” Qade kept up a steady stream of chatter, I think, to encourage me to keep going.  Of course, I couldn’t talk back as I was focusing on breathing and to keep putting one foot in front of the other. (drama)  Still it feels good to have done it, and conquered the hill one more time!

Well, here I art.  It’s been a couple days, I know.  Things have been busy around here.  We’re slowly getting the house back into shape from the whole “clean everything because of mice” deal.  It’s actually starting to be bearable around here now.  There are still small odds and ends that need to find their way home, and I do need to get all our junk out of the trailer from this summer, but one day at a time.  At least right now we can see the floor!

Today I took down Qade’s baby gates.  He has been doing such a good job at leaving things alone when we tell him “no” that we’ve decided to broaden his horizons.  He loves being able to walk all around the house.  I moved the gate with a gate (make any sense?) to the bottom of the stairs, so he does not have access to those right now.  I’m not ready for that!!!  He’s so good at walking now, and he LOVES to carry things!  Ha ha!  Yesterday when Stu was cleaning up some stuff, Qade “helped” by carrying little boxes and tubs.  It was very very cute!!  We try to encourage his sharing and his helping as much as possible.  Today he ‘shared’ one of his gold fish and even though I don’t like them, I ate it and said “thank you” just so he would know I appreciated the gesture. :-)

Something really cute!  Today I taught Qade to say “baby” when he is patting my belly!  It was just too sweet!  I know he has no concept of what a baby is, and at first I think he thought we were discussing my shirt! :-)   But it’s still cute to hear him say baby, and one day, not to far from now, he’ll know what it is.

Tonight we had some of the summer staff from camp come over for dinner.  The’ve been in the area so it was nice to get to see them again.  Right now they are out with Stuart “shooting” what fun. (ahem) I made some coffee cake today so when they get back we’ll have some of that.  My taste buds can hardly wait!  Toodles

A fun time

Hey all, we’ve given up the fight against the mice for a few days and have been spending time with Qade’s Grandparents. :-)   We had to come get our dog anyway, Stu was going through withdrawal so we decided to spend a couple days in Chino.  It’s hot out here!  But anyway, we came down on Thursday, and dropped of Qade to entertain the grandparents while we went out for our anniversary dinner!  We had a great meal at Applebees and then did some shopping together, and ended the evening at Barnes and Noble with some yummy Starbucks drinks!  We just had a great time being together!  I love being married to my bestest friend in the whole world!!!

Friday we just kinda “chilled” while Stu’s parents were at work.  It was nice to have a day of nuthin’.  We still have a ton of work waiting for ust when we go home, so it was nice to not have to think about anything for awhile.  Qade is getting better and FASTER at his walking!  He’s pretty impressed with himself too.  It’s fun to watch him.  He likes the grandparent’s house because there are no gates to keep him “in” or out as the case may be.  I do have plans to broaden his horizons at home too, but he’s still going to have to wait a bit, till we get the house in order.  He was having major melt downs on Thursday morning before we left because mommy and daddy were going over the gates to pack and such and he wasn’t allowed.  Wow, that was a challenge.  He ended up in time out for awhile over those screaming episodes.  But here it’s all open and free, and he can walk in circles to his heart’s content.

Today we will be heading home sometime.  The dog will be going with us too.  I think the Noggles will miss him (ha ha).  But the bunnies at home are getting bold and have been in the yard and all around the house.  Cisco will take care of that within an hour of being home I’m sure.  Chasing rabbits is one of his most favorite pastimes.  Well, I need to go and sort out our stuff to pack up.  Hope you all are having a spiffy weekend!

We got home from Abq on Saturday afternoon and haven’t stopped running since.  When we got here, we had to clean up after the mice, and let me tell you some of that was very disgusting work!  The problem was that Qade wasn’t allowed to be on the floor till we cleaned it, so he was stuck in his pack-n-play till I could get his room cleaned, then he was stuck in his room till we could get the living room cleaned.  Neither option did he like and he screamed and squacked for most of the afternoon.  Poor dude!  Our new vacuum works like a dream!  It has this cool “dirt sensor” light that lets you know if it’s still dirty or not, and let me tell you, that light was ON for most of the time, even after I’d gone over a section several times!  Wow!  Makes me feel like our old vac was doing NOTHING!

Anyway, so we spent Sunday afternoon cleaning as well, and then Monday rolled around and my bro James came to help me paint the kitchen!  Woo-hoo!!  It was oodles of work, poor guy, but we managed to pull it off, and now the kitchen is much brighter and more “modern” looking, I suppose.  I’ll post some pics on here soon.  We still have the counter tops to do, but we have to find a place that sells the “rock” stuff that you can paint on to counters.

I was pretty sore after all the work and bustle of the last couple days.  I had a Dr. visit on Monday morning and I’m now 7 months along, and doing fine!  But the big belly and baby tiredness do tend to catch up to me when I push it too much, so today even though there was tons of stuff left to do, I’ve mostly been taking it easy.  Oh well… there are more days ahead to catch up on the stuff that needs to get done.

Tomorrow is our 3rd anniversary and we’re going to spend the day chillin’ and doing us stuff with the 3 of us.  I’ll be fun, and relaxing and all that.  Well, better be runnin’ the boy just woke up from his nap and is beggin for some attention.  Ta ta friends!
