Sniff Shniffly Sniff

Yes, the men in my life are very generous and shared with me the cold that they had all weekend.  It is miserable!!!  I spent all last night mouth breathing (which I hate!) and ended up with a split lip because of it.  Today I mostly sat in the rocker and vacillated between freezing and burning up!  Every muscle in my body ached along with my head!  Wow, talk about feeling like you’ve just been hit by a bus!  Thankfully the boys were very good today!  They napped at the same times and that gave me a chance to at least lie down on the couch and rest.  My head still feels like it’s about to explode, and I’m totally drained of any energy.  Good thing Stu is now home to take care of me.:-)  I sincerely hope that all of you are doing better than me today!

This morning dawned bright and early. :-)   Happens that way doesn’t it.  Stuart is staying home from work today ill.  :-(   Poor man!  Wish I could make him feel better.  Qade seems to be pretty happy this am, so here’s hoping that he’s over whatever it’s been that’s bugging him.  I’m just feeling quite lazy today.  I have a ZILLION things to do and I think that’s why I’m resistant to doing anything.  If I only had a few things to do I’d just knock em out and get it over with, but no… I realize I could probably work all day and still not be ‘caught up.’  Bah- humbug!  So here I sit doinkin’ around on the computer, sipping coffee, and not doing anything!  Well, actually I have already started the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.  I still need to sweep/mop the ick kitchen floor, disinfect the counter tops and Qade’s seat.  Finish unpacking from last weeks travels, and vacuum.  Blah!  It’s not likely all going to happen today.  I still have a sick hubby to take care of, an adventurous boy to entertain, and I believe Sage is coming over today as well.  Should be fun!  Hope you all are having a swell Monday!

Oh, you need to check out the “mommy moments” post on the babyhacks site!  It’s a sweet story!

Well, here it is Sunday morning, and we’re skipping church.  Not exactly, we figured that whatever it is we’ve got floating around here no one else would want, so it’s an act of mercy actually.  Poor Stuart was up till 1am dealing with his schnozzler, as he put it.  He spent the entire night on the recliner just trying to breathe!  Qade was sooo sleepy last night.  I put him to bed, but he was having troubles with his nose too by the way he kept rubbing it.  So after 2 or 3 failed attempts at him staying asleep, he got to get up and have a little juice while we watched him play.  I put him back down after 9 thinking that this would be one of our “slumber party” nights, but he did stay asleep after that!  YAY!  I was so tired, but didn’t sleep well myself.  So this morning we bleary eyed, red nosed, icky feeling people couldn’t make it out.  Stuart is now peacefully sleeping in his bed!  I’m so glad!  I felt awful for him yesterday!  He was doing everything he could think of to make his nose feel better, and nothing worked.  I think he’s been through 3 or 4 boxes of kleenex.  Qade hasn’t been that bad, in fact, his nose hasn’t run at all, but I think it’s stuffy.  Nose drops help, but boy he puts up a fight at getting them.

Anyway, that’s basically what’s going on in our house.  I’m going to look online and see if I can find an EASY chicken soup recipe.  I don’t feel all that swell myself, so I don’t want to spend much time in the kitchen, but chicken soup does sound good, and maybe it’ll help us all to feel a bit better!  Hope you all are having a much better day where ever you are!

I hate to sew!!!

2008
02.22

I took 4H for 2 years when I was in upper elementary. The first year I loved it! It was sooo much fun! I made a book tote and a skirt. I’m not sure what else. The second year though I had a different instructor and a much bigger class. I spent most of my time (I didn’t finish it) ripping seams because it got sewn on the wrong direction, or the machine was set on the wrong stitch. Finally when we were going on a family vacation my mom said “enough.” The lady “teaching” wanted me to take along my sewing so I could, yet again, rip out the seam. *sigh* Since that fiasco I have had “moments of inspiration” where I though that it would be so fun to sew. However, I’ve never liked anything I’ve sewn, AND I’ve run into frustration at every turn. Despite all of that I was determined to cut down the curtains for Qade’s room. They were way too long for the windows and I thought it looked goofy! So I borrowed my mom’s machine and went to work. How hard can it be to hem some curtains?? WELL… first the machine wasn’t set on the right tension so before I realized it, I had one hem sewn and it was awful looking. Out came the ever faithful seam ripper! Somehow in the process of ripping (there were several occasions today) I managed to stab my thumb with the thing! It’s sharp!!! At last though, I got the tension adjusted and all 5 panels hemmed! Whew! I thought it would never happen. Especially when I was rushing through the last one because Qade was awake from his nap, and the bobbin ran out of thread! ARG!!! No, friends, that part of the “domestic” life will never settle with me. I shall not be a sewing fiend. There are many people who enjoy it, and can do it well, some of my very own friends. However if it’s there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that what makes one person happy and relaxed can be maddening to someone else. :-) Isn’t it great that we can all be different and still be friends? :-) Hope all of you sewers and non-sewers are having a fabulous day!  It’s snowing here and my man got to come home early!  Yay!!

Here’s the room

Okay, so it’s still not ‘totally’ done, because I don’t have the wall stuff up yet, but the paint is finished, and today we hung the curtains (though they aren’t in these pictures) and took down the blinds. I really don’t care for blinds, especially mini. For some reason the pictures had a hard time uploading, but these will at least give you an idea of what Qade’s room looks like.
This was the first step. Taping!! It took FOREVER, but I’m too sloppy of a painter to try it without tape! :-)

Next we painted the top half. It looked really “minty” when we started, and I was a little worried, but it turned out great!

My amazing “Mr. Fix it” worked on the ‘patch” while I panted around it.

Here’s Bubba enjoying his new “green” space. :-) Except a slightly more green than normal spot on the carpet it all went off without a hitch. Eventually we will have a chair rail where the 2 colors “meet.” Right now it’s just a thin white stripe. Doesn’t look too bad for amatures, huh?

Sleepy Mommy

2008
02.19

Qade slept like a champ last night!!  Yay!  He needed it too, he was even still a “leeeetle” bit grumpy this morning.  He must have a sleep deficit.  I do that’s for sure!  I slept kinda, sorta, not so well last night.  I need my Stu to keep me warm or something. :-)   I haven’t heard from him since the voice mail that I got saying he was safe in “L’usinana.”  I’m sure they are keeping him hopping with the camp sessons and all.  I miss him oodles though.  We were NOT meant to be apart!

I’m having a good time though despite the lack of sleep.  This morning I went for a hike with my dad in the foothills.  I also took the dumb dog.  Stuart asked me to take him for a walk if I got the chance.  He doesn’t walk on the leash enough to be enjoyable in my estimation, but he did pretty well once I choked him enough into submition. :-)   NOT REALLY!!  Don’t call PETA on me or anything.  Later, I went to lunch at the Olive Garden with my bro and sis-in-law.  We had soup and salad!  A very yummy lunch and “light” because we’re having steak tonight for my other bro’s birthday.  However “light” we anticipated it being, my brother ate 3!!! bowls of soup!  Olive Garden is good, what can we say?

Qade’s picture appointment went well!  I was impressed with Sears portrait studio.  It is more expensive in some ways, and with the package we don’t get as many pictures, but I still think it’s sufficient.  I got their “Smile Saver” club thing, and it totally pays for itself in 2 visits!  I’m ready to be totally satisfied with them.  The only problem I had was that ALL the pics look sooooo good that I had a really hard time choosing.  I know we have our own great camera now that takes wonderful photos, BUT when I see his cutie grin on those photos I just want to buy them all!  Stu’s better at saying no than I am…. but he wasn’t here today. ;-)

Well, best go, we must get ready for the birthday celebration for my “little” brother.  Hope you all have a swell week!  Ta ta

Goodbye JC Penny!

Hello Sears!  Yep, I’ve been a loyal JC Penny portrait person since Qade was born.  We have had some good experiences with them and got some good pictures!  Especially his newborn pics.  HOWEVER, the studio we’ve been going to since we moved back out West has had some serious issues.  We had an awful sitting when we went to get our family pictures around Christmas time, but Stu wheeled and dealed and got us a discount.  BUT today was the last straw!!!  I had called about a month ago to get an appointment because they were giving free portrait packages to people who would let them “practice” with their new camera system.  Well, I got there today and gave them my name.  The lady started flipping through the appointment book and what do you know, couldn’t find me in there.  Anyway, I won’t go into all the drama of the whole thing, but needless to say I wasn’t a happy camper, and decided to take matters into my own tentacles, er.. hands.  So while my mom was kind enough to wait there “in case” they called me, Qade and I took a trip across the mall to Sears where the atmosphere was calm and serene.  I was hooked!  I immediately made an appointment for our 10 month picture on tomorrow. :-)   Honestly Sears is a just a little more expensive than Penny’s, but to me it’s well worth it not to have to deal with stupid people. :-)   I think if you’re paying for a service and you’re not satisfied you should certainly go somewhere else!  Good ol’ America!

So that’s my “rant” for today.  Thanks for coming along.  Ha ha!  Besides that actually it’s been a pretty good day despite the lack of sleep!  I got to eat some really yummy fried rice at a great little Thai restaurant.  Take it easy, friends, and remember friends don’t let friends go to sorry picture places. :-)

Mornin’

2008
02.18

Tis after 1 am and I’m up because bubba has decided he’d rather scream the night away than sleep. :-(   It’s not fun for any of us.  His dad is working with him right now, but he doesn’t seem to like that either. *sigh*  Sometimes I just wish he could talk so he could at least tell us why he is upset.  I gave him some orajel and ibuprofen for his teeth, in case that’s what’s been triggering all of this, but it hasn’t seemed to help him calm down at all.  I know we can’t drag him into bed with us every time he decides to have a screaming jag, but it does really wear on me to listen to him scream.  That’s why I’m out here.  I can still hear him, but it’s not as bad as sitting right in there with him.  Poor Stuart has to fly out tomorrow for a camp conference thing, and he’s going to be beat as he is certainly not getting any sleep right now.  I’m going on night number 3 for lousy sleep.  Oh well, I guess it just goes that way when you have kids.
