Seven Months
12.10
Well, Qade is well into his seventh month now and I thought I should post a quick update on what he’s up to. Hee hee, well it may not be quick now that I think about it.
Let’s see, Qade turned 7 months the week of Thanksgiving, and the next week he finally got the hang of crawling!! He’d been going backwards for awhile, but when I pulled out that wrapping paper that’s all the motivation he needed to get going in the right direction. Now, of course, it makes BOTH of our days a little more exciting as he is exploring new and grand adventures like, electric cords and outlets, and mommy is trying to keep him from those very same things.
We’re having a great time! He has been responding to his own name as well as “Bubba” for some time now. Qade is just loving his baby food and cereal! He’s still not thrilled with the fruit, but he’s a veggie lover for sure! I’ve been sneaking in a bit of fruit by way of “Oatmeal with Bananas.” This week we’ll probably add “Rice with apples” too, just to see how it goes over. He’s also getting quite a jaw workout munching on “Biter Biscuits” and rice rusks, but he’s not too into swallowing. He likes to munch and spit it out. Pretty funny, but quite a mess too! We have been transitioning to a 4 hour feeding schedule, and he’s done very well at it. The last 2 nights he has woke up shrieking at the top of his lungs and I’m not really sure why, but figure he’s just adjusting a bit to the schedule change. He is still going to bed between 7 and 8, closer to 7 usually.
And gets up around 7am. Nice night! He is still taking 3 naps a day, but we’ll see how the next week goes, I may start to stretch his afternoon nap a bit and go to 2 naps. I figure the more sleep the better for a growing “wittle guy” but I don’t want the night time scene repeated, and maybe he’s just getting too much in the days. Qade loves board books! He thinks they are mighty tasty, but he likes to hear mommy or daddy read to him too. He still only has the 2 bottom teeth. The top gums have been pretty mushy for awhile, but nothing’s coming through yet. He is wearing size 3 diapers and is grown out of some of his 6 month jammmies. Today I put him in a 6-12 mo, outfit. How they could figure it would fit that large of a range is beyond me, but I think he looks swell in it. He loves to stand “by himself” holding on to the coffee table or the crib, but hasn’t been able to get himself there yet, although he is trying for sure! Hmmmm…. well, I guess I really can’t tell you EVERYTHING although I wish I could. He’s just so much fun! He talks and laughs all the time, and we just have the greatest conversations.
One day maybe you’ll be lucky enough to meet our boy. Till then I shall attempt to keep you up to date via blog world.

Accessories of Motherhood

I am so happy to be a mommy! Besides becoming a wife it’s the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to me. I’ve made some observations though about how life changes when you go from being a wife to being a wife and mommy. I’ve never really been “into” fashion so my accessories were always pretty basic. However I nearly always had on a necklace, ear rings and watch. Sometimes a bracelet.
As a mommy though I find myself wearing much different things. Instead of a designer handbag (which I never had anyway- tee hee) I carry a big diaper bag packed with every imaginable thing we could possibly want while away from home, and often over one arm is the infant carrier which is getting WAY too heavy! Instead of a necklace and bracelet, my wardrobe is accented with baby drool, snot and spit up! I’m frequently seen with a burp rag on my shoulder instead of a scarf. The shoes I wear are for comfort and quick footedness as I chase the every curious, now moving, little boy away from “no-no’s.” I often have whatever gormet delights that he has been enjoying on my own clothes as somehow baby cereal and baby food magically morph from the spoon to your hand, elbow, shoulder, hair. I personally think the baby hands help too.
I walk around humming lullabies and old “Patch” songs I learned as a kid. I take great delight in fun new discoveries like splashing water as high as possible in the bathtub. Standing unsupported at the coffee table, and the now favorite, crawling on the floor just to see what could be down there! My accessories may have changed, and when I look at some of my unmommied friends and see their perfect hair and totally coordinating outfits with great matching jewelry, I don’t envy them a bit!
Go, Bubba, Go!

Yay for Qade!! He finally figured out how to crawl forward!! It was on Thursday and I was wrapping some Christmas gifts on the floor. Well, he just decided that wrapping paper was too good to pass up! He really concentrated and just got those hands and knees moving in the right direction! It was soooo adorable!! I even gave him some paper to play with as a reward! However, now that he’s got it figured out, nothing is safe!! I had a bow on his new cousin Aiden’s package and Qade was determined to have it and he got it too, but now it’s in the trash.
It’s so fun to watch him learn and discover new things!! Yesterday I sat him in the living room by the coffee table while I was doing dishes. I heard this really big grunt and when I turned around I could see his head OVER the coffee table!!! he had grabbed the edge and was attempting to pull himself up!! He got as far as his knees and couldn’t quite figure out how to get to his feet, but I’m sure it won’t be long, he’s pretty insistent that he should be a movin’ groovin’ guy!
Anyway, the babyproofification of our house needs to happen this weekend. I’m not going to get to freakish about it because I believe that babies are part of the family not the center of the family, so he’s going to have to learn that things are off limits for him rather than me just put absolutely everything away till he’s 5. We are going to install latches on most of the cabinet doors. I’ll leave the tuperware one for him to get into.
He already loves playing with the plastic dishes. We have the safety plugs for the outlets and I’m going to have to really watch him with cords because he has this attraction to them. Of course we’ll not have stuff that he can hurt himself with lying around too. He’s already learning “no-no” so hopefully it’ll sink in quickly what is his and what is not.
It’s just so fun to be a mommy, and our little boy is just so much fun! We enjoy watching him learn and discover and are soooo glad we get to be a part of it!
I’ll post some pictures on here later of the actually crawling event. I have to upload them first though, and I’m feeling lazy right now.
So stay tuned. Have a fabulous weekend my friends!
